I was wondering if anyone has a bow, with an all wenge riser?

I'm on the list for new recurve and was thinking about this wood for the Riser.

Any pros/cons regarding this wood.

Thank you

T Folts

Mitch I'll try and send you a email of one I did. Not much mass weight but look killer if the grain is filled.

I do not have one that is solid but do have a Brack Quest with a wenge flare. Beautiful grain but is a bear for the bowyer to get all the pores filled in the wood.

Gator,
I have a 30 yr old straight limbed longbow with an all Wenge riser. It has three coats of the old Fuller Plast finish on it and the grain was still not filled. No problems with it.  Pretty wood just needs to have the grain filled to fully bring out the beauty.  I would still be shooting her but 74# and 66 year old shoulders dont get along any more.

Mine took 4 coats to fill the grain.

Mitch the one i had mustve been real dense as it was one of the heaviest risers i had. i had a wenge/myrtle riser...one of the nicest combos ive seen. would be my # 1 pick for my next bow.

Not all wenge but mostly. Wenge is a beautiful wood, although I'm not so sure bowyers think so. It takes them some extra steps to seal it.

Mike "yellowdog" did me a tremendous favor.  I should just let you pick out woods for my new bow.

Mr. B, is a class act from top to bottom.....

Not a really good pic but I like wenge.  It's real nice.

I got this one back in october. wenge with a myrtle flare, black walnut limbs. And, Mr. Tim said it takes a little more to finish cause it will bubble if you try to seal it too fast.

Wenge is a beautiful wood and I like it a lot. I have one bow with a Wenge flare riser. As already said, it needs some special attention for a bowyer, because it can be hard to fill the grains.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]
