Anyone own and shot one of these bows? I know there not made anymore.Or anyone have one and sold it it? Looking for thoughts on them in performance and do they have a lot of hand shock? Hows  workmanship and history & so on. Post pics if ya have them.I thanks you in advance.   :notworthy:   <><

Had a couple of Dave's longbows in the early '90s. Great shooters and great craftsmanship! Only reason I no longer have them is that they were 68#@28" and 71#@28" and I needed (read:doctor's orders) to drop down in bow weight. I have a few few friends here locally that still shoot Appalachians....their "go to" bows! Mike

Frank, I have one of Daves early 62" Flatbows. It's 72#@ 28", I called and talked to him a couple of years ago and he told me I had a leafspring off an old truck.  :biglaugh:  Great guy to talk to and a great bow in my opinion and a real workhorse for me. I never noticed much hand shock but I am shooting close to a 725grn. arrow and it still shoots fairly flat out to about 25 yrds. I can't figure Photobucket out or I would post pic's. Joe O.

Mine  are not FF, just great shooters dead in the hand.

Finally, a thread about my favorite bows. I have 4 at the moment, 2 Middle Mountain longbows, one flatbow and one Elk Mountain 50's style recurve.

Bldtrailer, is the Cedar Ridge a very mild R/D unstrung? Looks a lot like my flatbow except mine just says "Flatbow", no specific model name on it.

My first trad bow was a Middle Mountain I bought off of another member of the archery club in '94 or so. The others I've picked up whenever they came available in the classifieds here on TG and I could afford them. I need to send the first one off and have it refinished, but every time I string it up, that gets delayed another 6 months. I still need a Savage River and a Little Laurel (and maybe a Cedar Ridge) to finish out my set.

I bought a Savage River off of Dave in 1991 at the PBS meeting in Wheeling.  It is still the only bow that I shoot.  It is a combination of Red elm Limbs with a Schedua risor.  57 at 27.  I talked with dave in the early 2000's and he said do not shoot FF out of his bow, he was not sure how it would hold up.

By the way, I have had my bow strung continuosly since I bought it and it still pulls 57 at 27.

I met Dave when he was making fantastic custom cedar arrows.  They really don't make finer human beings.  I was in my first medical practice close to his home in Ripley.  He talked about bow making and my response was if his bows were as good as his arrows, which they were, he would do well.  I have 3 of his bows, 2 or which are much too powerful for me to shoot reglarly, but I like them so much, I can't part with them.  By the way, he is still any outstanding bowhunter and is still a man I'm proud to call friend and fellow West Virginian,  Respectfully, Dr. Dwight Bundy  (My 3 bows are Flatbow, Senecal recurve and Little Quail for my son when he was 6).

I shot 3-D shoots with Dave and his partner in crime Tom White many moons ago.All over the North East. They both came to Tx and hunted javeys and hogs with me one time.I have 2 flatbows, a Middle Mtn.and a Savage River with 2 sets of limbs. All to heavy for me now but I will keep them.

Great bows all of them, mine are all non-fastflight.

If I could get  Dave G. to build a NEW Savage River Made for me(or new limbs FF)  My BlackTails & Dale Dye would collect alot of dust hanging on the wall.

Well it came in today. Gotta put a leather grip on and strike and rest on.It was suppose to be 56@29 but pulls very smooth, and thinking it m,ay be just tad lighter then that(which is fine by me)was hunted with and has some minor scares.I'll post pic sunday after i shoot some. I like this bow.<><
