We are planning a mountain vacation in may to the Colorado Rockies never been west of Texas and that was for basic training Lol plan on carrying our longbows hopefully for some stumping or small game to go along with sightseeing  can't get a lot of info off the state site so here goes what are are options on public mountain land to shoot some arrows thnx guys

 You can stump shoot in the National Forest.

There will be no small game open at that time other than turkey if your here early enough in May. Most of our small game ends in February. Also we tend to have very few rotten stumps, sometimes you can get lucky and find a spot with some. We tend to shoot at more bushes and flowers etc, equally fun though

You might find some rockchucks to shoot at.

Not much small game that time of year but plenty of stumps.  National forest,  blm.  Have fun. bring lots of arrows our stumps can be hard...

To be on the safe side it doesn't hurt to  have a small game license.

some of the NF near the congested front range areas which is basically saying near Denver have rules against recreational shooting. Just be sure to read the forest rules signs you see at trailheads etc..

Thnx guys this is a real treat being able to head out there for a lifelong Southerner might not want to come back lol was thinking maybe southwestern co dunno any suggestions for some great sightseeing and stumping thnx

The end of June is a trad only 3-d shoot that is real good! in northern co.

I agree w/ 'chaser.  The Co Trad Archery Society hosts the High Country Shoot in June.  I it were to happen that you could wait 'til June, you wouldn't be disappointed.

homebru's post made me think, I know scary, but if you can't wait till June for the CTAS shoot, the American Bowmen have a great 3d range in the mountains near Denver and hold a lot of shoots open to the public. They don't have their 2013 schedule up yet, but here is a link to their website, would be well worth the sidetrack to shoot at their club, next best thing to an elk hunt.
