Has anyone tried using hardwood dowels or say 8 or 10 inch sections glued in shaft directly behind insert to add weight up front? What about 5/16 bolt with head cut off?

I knew some old timers who did that withfiberglass shafts, and it seemed to work for them

That would do it! It would make your arrow be a little stiffer in comparison.

By that I mean if you have a 100 grain brass insert in one arrow. And in another you had a standard aluminum insert + a long section of wood that together equaled 100 grains, the one with the aluminum and wood front load would react a little stiffer than the brass insert.

Other than that though, I can't see any downside as long as all your arrows had the same configuration and bareshafted well.

I agree I'm just to cheap to pay 14 bucks and shipping for brass inserts! A thread Tap brass 8/32 screws alum foil wrapping or tape. Other ideas?

Sorry talking about tapping back side of alum inserts 8/32 adding weight with 8/32 screws brass steel..

I was looking for 250gr up front on my CE90s. Used a 150gr field point and added a brass bolt to bring the total insert weight up to 100gr. The Carbon Express inserts were tapped all the way through, but I bought an 8 x 32 tap before I realized that.

My nephew glues in 100gr 243 bullets into his shafts,  30 cents per 100 grains. Can't remember what size shafts they snug into.

I have in some c/e 250s. Works good.

Thanks guy I'm to cheap to pay 14 buck a dozen for inserts. I like the thread the insert use brass screws. You can get 1/4 OD copper tubing cut a piece with tubing cutters put on the screw to add weight as needed.
