Hey Larry, I'm just on the other side of the river. My buddies and I (all trad guys) shoot at Blue Mountain Reservation in Cortland. 14 target 3d range and 10-50 yard hay bale range. PM me...

I live 15 miles from Tompkins County. Is that area around Cayuga Heights ?  :wavey:

Larry, You can go on the DEC website. You can register for Registration# log and carcass tags.
Only place you must be preregistered for is Lands owned by Cornell U.

Hey Larry, I grew up and lived in the Ithaca area for 25 yrs. Yes a buddy of mine from there mentioned about the deer program for Cayuga heights ( Ithaca basically ) I'm not sure just what the deal is, but I know there are a truck load of unwanted deer. Just contact DEC. I now live in the corning area about an hour away. Let me know what you find out. I may be tempted to go on a hunt over there.

W chaser, We never did get together for a hunt this year. Maybe a venture over to Ithaca could be eventful.

DEC is having an extended season in Cayuga heights from Jan.12 to 31st. Requires a permit obtained besides your hunting licence. All legal weapons can be used and all normal regulations are in effect. Each hunter can take two anterless deer per day.

I've read before that they have a huge problem at cayuga heigths, and also that being able to hunt there is nearly immpossible, landowners seem to dislike hunters more so than the deer. looks like there are 2 state parks you can bow hunt in ithaca. I've been to both of them before, but never scoped them out for deer hunting.

larry

Lee, you wouldn't happen to know any landowners there would you?

Knawbone

Alot of tree huggers in C Heights, some of them may allow archers - don't know till you ask!   :dunno:

Larry wish I did. But both State parks are really good. Cayuga Height has 10 deer in every yard but they want the DEC to load them on trucks and move them away to the land of Milk and Honey. DEC has a map on there WEB site too.

BrownA5

I am currently part of the program and hunt the State Parks.  Cayuga Heights is very tough to get access into.  Been away vacationing with family.  I am looking forward to a hunt or two before the end of the month.  Last time into my stand I saw 39 deer.... most of them on private property that will not allow hunters!

larry

I think I may have to take a trip down this weekend and do a little scouting, Dan do you know if the park roads are plowed or do you have to walk in from the entrance?

Stumpkiller

Cayuga Heights has so many deer you cannot believe it.  We keep a boat in Lansing and anytime of the day or night we see deer in yards and on the roads between there and Ithaca.  The marina is out on a penninsula and deer wander between the boats still on the shore!

Culling is badly needed.

Watch out for the Yuppies.  It is a college town.

Even if you get permission, maintaining the 500 ft rule will be difficult. And you better drop them fast as recovery rights will most likely not be given by neighbors.
