Had some time to spare this mornin, so I head out to a new spot that my son and I found....actually I was lookin for turkey tracks in the snow. After finding several spots in the field where the turkeys are scratchin up beans, I decide to head in to the tree line to chase some tree rats. After a bit, I get in to a mess of em and the shootin begins, a few hits...more misses, and I am almost back to the truck. Then out pops one more little bugger and just dares me to shoot, after the miss, the little furball heads up about twenty feet and walks out on to an open branch, like it was sayin bet ya can't hit me now. I promptly set an arrow on it's was in to outer space. I listen to the sound of the arrow hit a twig, but am shure it lands in the field, however after several min. of looking the field over, no arrow. Ah well, it's been a fun day..worth the loss of one arrow, so I head back to the truck. On the trail that goes to the place where I parked I see the arrow lying dead center in the trail. All I could do was laugh as I put it back in my quiver.
The wishbone will never replace the backbone.

Good story and sounds like fun. I read the other day a good squirrel population follows the year after a good acorn crop. Last year man did we have a lot of acorns and yes this year the squirrels are every where. Killin squirrels gives a nice break from the preparation and travel that goes into a deer hunt. I have had fun the last couple of weeks trying my skills. Yes, I to have missed more than I connected!

small game is the most under rated hunting there is.
However it can be the most fun.
No pressure and more shot oppertunities.
