I've been wondering about this topic myself for some time.  Since I had the day off from work due to the holiday I decided to go check out a couple pieces of public and do some late season scouting.  I loaded up my cold weather gear and my stick bow.

It's been a good year of harvests with an antelope in WY, a nice buck and doe in IA (none with the stick bow, though).  Freezer is full so I was just out dinking around while my wife was at work.

As I was stalking my way in on a mature doe and button buck I was thinking:

1) switch to trad bow full-time.  To do this I need to shoot more than I currently do

2) talk to fellow hunters more.  I'm always pretty secret about my spots, but it's good to hear from other hunters what they are seeing.  I talked to a nice fellow hunter on my way out from this piece...he told me that a nice buck was taken during bow season and another was spotted in the area....

3) get up a couple sets and build a natural ground blind for morning hunts...Since I hunt public it's hard to get up in a tree in the morning since I don't normally leave out a set.  I found an area that I think is pretty hidden, so I'll leave up a set for morning hunts to increase the amount of time I'm out.

4) finalize arrow set up....I would like to get a good flying 600g set up from my hoyt buffalo.

What's everyone elses?

Good thread, My resolution is to start preparing for spring gobbler season which includes: Practicing with my new to me 70's Bear super griz.so I can consistantly hit a 3 in. circle out to 20 yds.; Build ground blinds now in areas that I typ. hunt. ; Practice my turkey calling.Thats spacific, but generally, continue shooting my bows every chance I get because practice makes perfect- not that I'll ever attain perfect, but you need to shoot high to even come close to the mark.   :archer2:

Get in better shape.  That will do more for my hunting than anything.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

I have some really great bows that I want to spend some time shooting. I shot a new Bob Morrison bow the other night and shot my best 10 shot score. Today I shot my new Striker bow and it shot fantastic also. Then there is that great shooting Jim Gainey bow and that very steady Black Widow, and that great little Shrew. My new years resolution is to spend more time with each of them.

Practice at 40 yards so 30 yards is a chip shot in preparation for a bucket-list adventure the 1st week of October.

Looks like "work" will take me back to South Africa again in early August but I'm not sure I'll hunt this time.

Unfortunately (?) I do have 2-3 more bows that I "need" to experience: Bob Lee Ultra, Rose Oak Ultra Delight Limited, & Pittsley Predator Metal riser.  I should move a few more but I just can't bring my self to do it.

Terry Green

Too take some animals with some bows I own that I haven't yet.

Get my old butt in shape and keep on with my year round traditional  bowhunting. Gotta love hunting and living in the south. Something to hunt year round.

I need to stop trading and buying new bows and just stick to my "old reliable" Robertson Purist Longbow...it is hands down the best bow I have ever shot and I ALWAYS GO BACK TO IT !
