I have a longbow i would like to have the grip made smaller and have about 5 pounds taken off the the limbs. Is this something the bowyer could do, i am sure he could the grip, but is 5lbs asking to much, is that a big deal, maybe something bowyers really dont care to do.I would like some input before i call Dwyer, if it a major deal i probably will just deal with it , i have had the bow about 8 yrs. or so, and its a beauty, just a little heavy now. Thanks  Dave

Post this on the bowyers bench(main page) and also check with The Bow Hospital a sponsor in the sponsor banner

I just read a post and I think the Bowdoc agreed, most bows can be reduced in weight 10% of existing original weight. I'm certainly no expert, but Bigjim just reduced the weight of my Buffalo from 53# to 50#even with no problem. The process involves trapping the limbs (creating a trapezoidal edge on the limbs so the belly is wider than the back. Most of the stress on the bow limbs is on the belly where compression occurs. The back of the limb merely flexes.

The bowyer would be the first place to check. He will have the notes to the bow and know for sure what can be done for bow weight and grip.

My bow is 56#, would really like 50# now, maybe thats an unrealistic number to obtain, i dont really know, like i say if its a major deal, maybe be best to just leave it alone.

If nothing else i still would like to get the grip reduced, its larger than the normal Dwyer grip.
