Been trying to video some of my hunting. On the ground I just use a tripod but im trying to come up with a good idea for a camera mount when im on my my tree stand or ladder stand. Wondering if anybody has made up some home made clamp type mounts or other type of camera mounts? Im doing this just for fun and been using my little sony video camera. Any info would be appreciated.

I've been thinking about the same.....would like to video some hunts with Cade and all the cameras I'm interested in are so small.  I just can't see using one of the camera arms I see all the time, they seem so big.

Is there something out the that's downsized for tiny camera's?

Muddy makes a camera mount that you can put on a tree step or one of them multi section bow hangers. Santa brought me one. I haven't used it yet though. Check Cabela's as I believe that is where Santa got mine.

Gorillapod.  They make several sizes.  You can use them as a traditional tripod, or wrap them around stuff (a branch, part of the stand, a pack, etc) to hold them in place.

If I was going to make something I think I would start with no. 9 wire. It's flexible but stout, I use it as an attachment and support for homemade wolf snares, not as the snare part itself.  I guess you would need to braze a tripod head to one end of a section of it, and may want to make a cable of a couple sections for more support. Just my two cents.

I just made my own using 3/4in aluminum tubing based on my previous steel models I used for larger camers and with the adjustable T-screw attached base plate it weighs around 2# and works great!

Cambell Cameras have a pile on their site. From what I hear, a fluid head really helps. (like a manfrotto)...Ryan

If you are wanting to go small get you a Gopro cam they are sweet I used it for the first time this year also The campbell outdoor has great stuff I have a package deal for sale on here now with a 3rd arm pro series and manfrotto head, its big but man is it solid once you get it up.

I have made my own for years, I have tried lots of different styles.  I use 1/2 inch tubing cut it into 4-6 inch peices, drill holes through both sides of each end, weld a small lag bolt in one end (grind it to a square so it fits in the tubing) bolt the middle peice together with a silicon washer in between the two peices of tubing. then put a bolt throught the other end with a rubber washer on the far end, this allows the camera to be screwed on against the rubber washer.  I will try to post some picture or a link to you-tube for a better look.

Hey Fellers I have the perfect setup. I`ll try to get a pic of it up later. I have the three piece bow holder from bas pro. You know..three sections with a hook on the end. I have a camera mount that swivels from BP as well and my Sony HD handycam fits perfect on it.I have a high dollar camera arm that stays at the house as this deal works much better..RC

 Its not heavy at all and I think I have 40 bucks total in it not counting the camera of course.RC

Here are a couple I have built, a couple hints:
use smaller diameter lag screws, easier to screw in.
square off hex end off lag bolt with grinder so fits perfect in metal stock. (will not turn out on you)
use thread lock or hit with punch so bolts dont back off or come loose.
I look at thrift stores or ask many people if they are throwing out tripods, to keep for you and I recycle the heads for these.


   

   

   


this one is very basic, but works good, just a screw and washer, you just tilt by turning on the tree.

   

I have also welded a plate on one end to use as a strap on type, I also made loops for the ratchet straps to go through.

gorilla pods work great for bushes, trees with small limbs and as a small tripod.

Great idea fellas....looks like I have another winter project!

Looks like I'll need a 3ft. pc. of square alum, I'll cut into 3pc's, I'll attach them stair-stepped up(like the one in RC's pic) so it folds one pc. under the other, and I think I'll make it so it attached to a t-bar that screws into the tree(like Mark's).

I went on Campbell Cameras site and  found some  very small, affordable models.

If I can't make one that I like, I have an option.

I also want to make something to use in my DB. I'd like it to be a single stick, not a tripod to save some ground space.

I have not had any luck with my Gorilla pod. It moves to much and is not steady, for me.

I have been straping my cheap tripod to my stand with a rubber bungie. It works but not a lot of mobility. Thanks for all your imput.
