I recently acquired a Hoyt "Special Hunter". I posted about it in the collecting forum (adding on to a thread from 2010 I found).

It is a 62" AMO 50# recurve. It is missing the string. How do I know what is the proper string length to purchase for it?

I've read that one should subtract 3" from the AMO length, but I've also heard other guidelines suggested.

Thanks!

Thanks, that does help.  So a string listed as AMO 62" is the right string, and it will measure about 59" under tension.

If the bow was built to AMO specs then the string that fits will be 59" under tension.
