What are your thoughts about a hunting license thats good for everything? As long as it's done with trad equipment.

Everything?  In the state?  In the world?  In the galaxy?  Including zombies?

Don't see a difference in that and an archery license.  You are never going to establish a license that crosses state lines at least for all 50.  Not sure where you are going with your line of thought.

I'd be buying the Zombie tag!

It would be great for us, but we don't account for much of the hunting public, let alone the public at large. For something like that to ever become anything more than a dream, you would have to have a convincing argument as to how this would benefit all the other competing interests that have anything to say about the allocation of hunting resources.

I don't know what the license structure is in Michigan so it is hard for me to answer with any useful input.  We have a "Gold Sportsman" license here that let's you hunt all seasons with all weapons, fish salt and fresh water, access management areas etc. for @ $100 (residents).  I don't know where a trad everything license would fit into our structure.

We also follow a "lesser weapon" inclusive policy that lets you use archery tackle in all seasons and muzzleloading equipment in general gun.  I know some states do not have that option.    

Your right Dave, competing interest. I just don't think it would hurt anything if maybe you had a chance at a furbearing animal (coyote lets say) and it would be legal. Some people don't hunt or trap coyotes, coon, fox etc.. Just a target of oppurtunity.

Traditional equipment would create a maximum allowed participation / minimum impact situation.  It is a limiting factor.   Sounds fun.

However,

there are certain elements that would preclude that from ever happening. . . mainly other hunters.

Rules, enforcement, jealousy,cheaters etc etc would be a problem.

Cool thought,  I would buy such a tag,  but I don't think it would ever happen.

Your right Chuck, just dreaming out loud. It's just something I think about every time I go out with my bow.

We used to have sportsman license. Allthough you couldn't use it to shoot a sportsman.

In California we dont have a lic that allows for everything but you can get a archery only deer tag that allows you to hunt about 75% of the deer zones in the state were any other weapon you are restricted to the zone the tag is issued for. Now its been many years scene i have hunted deer and knowing our state this may have become more restrictive over the years but it was nice being able to hunt most of the state with a single tag .

Yeah, that would go over great here in the soviet state of N.J. As long as you have to pay and pay and pay and pay, you get the idea.

I do like the idea of a Zombie license as we do have many of them in this state, they seem to favor hanging around Gov't buildings and walking in and out of them while doing NOTHING.

Same principle as 'target of opportunity'.

I'm sure the cheaters would be out in force. Though, the fines could be set SO HIGH as to discourage cheats...I like the original thought and just adding a 'catch' phrase to it.

Here in Oklahoma it is called a lifetime hunting .license.Good for everything except antelope and maybe elk I think
