This was on the porch when I came home from work today. Going to try to do this one off my Iphone so I hope the pics are sized right!

I'm an admitted "bowaholic" and I love to shoot and hunt and there's so many great Bowyers out there. Sadly my work schedule has consumed me for the last couple of years and I've been doing a lot more shooting than hunting. I try to fling a few arrows every day after work, it's therapy for me after I've spent a day of getting my brain twisted in a knot.

I got the same one two days ago, good week for him.

Started out with stickbows in the early 70's before there were compounds and went to compounds when they came out. I was deadly with the mechanical contraptions but the more I shot them in hunting and tournament situations the more I felt I was missing something.

In the mid 90's it still was fun but as I said "I needed to make a change". I knew no one that was shooting stickbows in my circle of hunting comrads but I did a little snooping in the local archery shop and more and more became intrigued by a Damon Howatt Super Diablo that was hanging lonesomely on the wall.

I mentioned the Howatt bow to my wife in casual conversation and was shocked when, on Christmas morning, Santa had left the prize under the tree for me! After a 20 year hiatis the journey began again. I shot that bow in indoor league that winter. I was the only Trad shooter so I won a trophy for high Trad score, not hard to do since I was competing against myself, and then shot summer broadhead league with the stick, again being the only stickbow shooter. Everyone was intriged by why I would do such a thing???????

After a year of practicing with my stick I felt I wasn't quite ready to commit fully and hunted with my compound one more year. My fear was that I wasn't ready to make the shot when the time came and if I lost an animal I'd put it down and never go back to it. Another year of the cycle of shooting winter league, summer broadhead league and I finally felt I was ready. First hunt, first arrow, deer down. I was hooked!

Yellow Dog, You are teasing Sir   :archer:

Funny how this has evolved from a "got my bow" to a "how I got here" thread. We've all been there. Still I was a loner being the only one toting a stickbow. After multiple triumphs with my stickbow something magical happened. After a fews years of having to master a computer at work I bought my first PC and enter the World Wide Web. I went from being a lone hunter, not knowing anybody that was hunting the way I did, to finding thousands thru places like this great site.

Met alot of great people here on Tradgang and learned a ton. Since then I've become very familiar with the work of Jim Neaves, Dan Toelke, Ron Pittsley, John McCullough, Greg Coffey, Jason Kendall, the Widow Workers, Herb Meland, Brian Wessel to name a few and many others. There's so many good Bowyers out there. Bought, sold and traded more than I can remember. As I said "I'm a bowaholic"     :dunno:

Keep typing and thinking as I enjoy the story, but I am a little ADHD and need pictures to help me read!!!    :bigsmyl:

I have a couple of Dan's Curlews and a Whip. One Curlew has the perfect grip for me and did this.

Sent that riser to Dan and he duplicated that grip perfectly and did this. Lynx takedown, Cocobolo and Linen Micarta riser. 60" recurve limbs in Myrtle 49@30 and 64" HS longbow limbs in Myrtle 51@30. A work of art.
