Believe it or not the "HARDWAY" is often the EASIER way(in hindsight)!

No. Splce feathers are made from full length feathers. For example, if you want 5" fletching you need to cut one feather color at 4" and another color feather at 1". Then butt them together in the clamp and glue them on to the shaft at the same time.(x3) Then burn them on a feather burner. Onother way you could do it if you don't have a feather burner is to take regular ready to glue on feathers and splice them at 4" and another at 1" and butt them together in the clamp then glue them to the shaft.(x3) The latter don't have the keen edge that the burned fletch has but it still looks pretty good. There are many slice combo's, I just went with a simple example.

I've never seen pre-spliced feathers for sale, it's not really that hard to do with full length. That being said, I need a lot more practice.

Come on Damon, it's a pain in the butt and you know it.

Yeah, I tried with some that were already cut and that is how the question came about, lol.

I don't know where Gladwin is but your welcome to come by and use or borrow my burner. I have some full length feathers you can have. I can show you how to do it.

Magnus told me he'd be willing to do it but it'll cost you.

Mike, give me a call.  I will walk you thru it.  You will be amazed that you can do one (easily) in under 30 seconds.

Personally, I do not like the butt splice method.  The membrane splice is pure genious, and it looks like it grew that way when done correctly.  If you guys like, I can do a quick how to when I get home so you all can see the simple process of doing a membrane splice.

Very good how-tos from these guys. Yes, it was kind of a pain in the butt for me at first, kill  shot. LOL. It gets easier with practice...
