Cabelas has nice pair, two large patch pockets on the thighs. You could try the big auction site or the Goodwill stores too.

I got a filson pair that has pockets like you want. They are pretty expensive, but I got lucky and found a pair sitting around in a gun store and got them for $130,which I think is a steal for these pants.

Look at military surplus. I have some German military cargos that are just the ticket for colder weather, and they don't cost much.

x2. I had a tailor shop add leg zippers so I could get them on over my boots. Wear with suspenders and I don't notice the weight. Super warm.

X3 I went and got 2 pair at an Army Navy Store a few years ago, they are a dark khaki brown and German issue....They were $8 a pair.....like I said that was a while ago. Even if they are $20 now that's still cheap!

I've been trying to find some in a manly 40 waist for some time now. Seems all I can find are 30 or 32" waist. Weren't there any "fat" german soldiers...  :biglaugh:

Not in WWII. If you look at the old pictures, you didn't see any heavy soldiers in the Atlantic or Pacific theaters. Amazing what a lack of food will do to your waist line   :)

Yesterday added another inch to mine   :(

I just ordered a pair of first lite pants and cant wait to try them. Got the asat camo, really like that camo, not a big fan of all the blob tree stuff!

Hard to get sizing right on European wool, but whe itcomes together, magic
Dress wool is thinner than field wool.  I am about to retire a
Pair of  German wools after almost 30 years.  Wool is fine, but all the seams are coming apart.

Surplus stores and thrift shops!  Got a pair for $6 and they are thick, USA made trousers

Have a pair of what I thought were Swedish wool surplus, maybe they are the German ones mentioned above. Heavy and warm, had a small cargo pocket. I seem to jam everything into the cargo pockets. The original pockets were just to small. Cut off some cargo poskets from some old BDU's and had them sewn on. Much more usefull now.
Would like to find another pair but like those above the are hard to find in "adult sizes".

Zippers on the legs are an ACE idea!

Wool pants get HOT quick.  I have two pairs and I hardly ever wear them even in cold climates because they are such a pain to take off with boots on.  I never thought about taking them to a tailor.   :knothead:

On my list of things to do now!

Day One has a nice pair, but pricey. They are "pocket perfect" for me. Big roomy pockets with a double hole flap so you can really load them up. Especially the cargos.
LL Bean have nice ones as well, not so pricey.

Woolrich malone pants are nice, but no cargo pockets, standard pockets as on jeans, very nice quality.

I have some German field wool pants that have the "manly" waistline...too big for me.

You guys shoot me a PM if you're interested. I was just gonna put em in the classifieds...

Maybe we could do a deal just in time for Christmas..?

Just ordered a pair from Cabelas.  On sale for $59.  Just do a search on their site for "wool pants".
