The Huntress

Hi gang,
I hope this is the right place to post this. Please let me know where to put it if it is not.

I have just stumbled into a great hunting lease in Chatham County, NC. I grew up in a hunting family...part of that story got posted in an earlier post from when I first joined tradgang. Long story short, I'm basically re-learning how to hunt. I got a deer with my Mongolian horse bow in 2010. This year, I'm teaching myself how to stillhunt and stalk. It's hard but awesome!

I'm still kind of new in NC, and don't know that many people who hunt. I'd love to make a new friend or two and maybe invite them on to my lease.

But here's the catch: I am a single lady. So that makes it tough. I'm not hunting for a man (well, unless a really nice one happened to show up, maybe), just a hunting partner. And I don't like drama. So what's a girl to do?

Any ideas?

Tom

Jan,
You might post this in the NC forum, you might get more responses there as well. Good luck with your pursuits.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

I wish I lived closer to you. I would LOVE another lady to hunt with. I think you will find someone here though. Good luck to you.

Get online and find some traditional clubs in your area. I know there is a few, then go to the shoots and meet some folks. Carolina Traditional archers are more to the west. Some other guys might chime in and tell you about the other clubs in your area. Our state shoot is in May. I usually go but the last two years, I went but could not shoot. Both years were horse mishaps. I begining to think I am not as quick as I use to be.

Nice to meet you here anyway, Bona! High fives for us bowhunting gals!

Tom, where is this NC forum you mention? Night Stalker, I did post in the forum for clubs and groups, but no one replied. I haven't had any luck finding traditional archers in the Raleigh area. I didn't have the opportunity to get to the CTA shoot this year because of work. Next year I'll try to go.

Carolina Traditional Archers has a shoot on the first Saturday of every month. There is one on December 1st. First-time shooters shoot and eat for free. Great people and great shoots. I'll send you details if you are interested.

If you want an old hunter to join you in scouting and hunting your lease let me know.

You'd have a hard time finding a better guy than Joe.  His biggest problem is that he turkey hunts when there's pig to be had   :smileystooges:

Great Guy though!

Good luck in your "hunt"

You will enjoy the CTA shoot. It starts at 9:00 AM. Lunch will be about noon or so. I'll be there shooting a Bear takedown. Hope you can make it.

Charlie, thanks for the kind words. I hope we can share a hunting camp again soon.

I am a CTA member and we have one heck of a shoot once a month.  It averages about 40 of the best folks you can imagine on any given club shoot.  We also provide lunch with the shoot and it is usually darn good. So, if you get an opportunity, come down and see us and I am sure you can get hooked up with some hunting and shooting buddies.

It's hard to beat the deal at CTA. Good people, good food, and good fun. I'm not as active as I'd like to be but I've been a member for a bunch of years.

Jan, if you are ever near Mebane, NC stop by the shop. You are also welcome to join us on a Tuesday night or Thursday night for an evening of shooting indoors. Oh, Chatham Co. has some really nice deer. You shouldn't have any problem finding someone to hunt with.

The Huntress

Dang guys, I have school once a month on the weekends and I can't make it on Dec 1.  :(

How about January, when is that one?

The Huntress

I didn't know there was a shop in Mebane. Are you the folks that make bow quivers, by the way?

I also didn't know Chatham Co was famous for deer!! Guess I got more lucky than I thought.  :)

There are some big deer in the piedmont.

If you contact the Sissipawhaw Traditional Archers (Burlington off Hwy 49...not too far from Don's shop in Mebane) there are several folks living near you that may be interested. I'm in Randolph and seem to have more hunt opportunities than time otherwise I'd be interested.

Also, if you're not a member of the NC Bowhunter's Association you may want to join. Members have a large liability coverage that helps landowners decide on leasing to you or letting you hunt. It eases their mind regarding tort action.

Good luck. Hopefully we'll see some harvest shots sometime of a nice Chatham P&Y buck.
