Heavy Longbow

I'm looking to get a 68" 70# longbow. I know its heavy but I like heavy and would like to own a 70# bow. I want a R/D style bow, with some nice wood and maybe more modern core materials with a basic dished grip and reinforced tips so I can shoot FF strings. What bowyer would you recommend to make me a nice smooth longbow as I've described? They all make beautiful bows, but I can't decide what specific model has the highest potential to shoot nicely. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Maybe its too late for my 2 cents but X2 what Shedrock says and take a look at Black Canyon Bows by Mike Hayes. Reasonably priced and the best LB's around IMO. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Give Nate a call at Bama Bows. You will not find a better bow for the money and then some. He isn't afraid of heavy bows and 70# is well within his capabilities and not at the apex like so many other bowyers. He's always improving his product and just recently shipped a 2pc Hunter 102#@29". If he didn't believe it was going to hold up it wouldn't have gone. I believe he'll provide you with a great product that looks as good as it shoots and will perform exceedingly well.

Nate at Bama Bows, Dave at Hitman Custom Longbows, and Ken Roloff of Whippenstick.

Can't go wrong with any of them.

Dave makes an excellent heavy longbow.

Thanks everyone, looks like I have more than a few choices. Every bowyer you've mentioned does beautiful work, this is gonna be hard.

Morrison Shawnee or Dakota with foam carbon limbs would be my choice. I find Bob's foam carbon limbs draw much smoother in all my 70# plus models up to 83#.Try one.

Jeffrey Archerys new version of the Quillian longhunter is nice I bet.

I have a red elm 68# longhunter and its super smooth with no handshock.

I just got the 102# 2pc from Nate at Bama and it a ripper I couldn't recommend him high enough I've never put arrows that far into my target butt before and there is no shock it's just a smooth drawing work of art
