I am considering trying a shorter bow for tree Stand and ground Blind Hunting. I had 2 Blunders this year so far. I shoot 62" bows. I have a Dalaa Riser with Border Hex limbs for my recurve and a 62"ACS 3 pc on 12' riser as my longbow. In NM Elk Hunting from a blind on a water I caught a limb tip and missed a Huge Bull. Just home from Illinois and I caught a limb tip on my stand on a good 8pt whitetail. Missed the lungs but hit him in the neck. Just lucky to get the 8 pt. First Trad Harvest.
Thanks, Randy

How much shorter do you think you would like to go?  Know anyone with a bow in the length your looking at?

Congrats on the harvest!!

I draw 29". I have tried some 60" long bows and do not seem to shoot them near as good ?? Maybe a shorter recurve.

I have a little over a 29" draw and love my 52" Cascade Nighthawk recurve and my 56" Cascade Brushhawk longbow.

KOOK68

I have a couple of Martin Rebels that shoot pretty sweet. They are 52" bows

Check out the St Jude's Miss Hope an Miss Faith in the thread up top.  Roman makes several great short bow models.   I have a Bobcat and love it!

try a big jims thunderchild,
58" works great with my 28" draw and I know others that draw up 29.5 and 30 with no problems,
and you cant beat the performance of the thunderchild.

I love a 56" bow out of the tree. Even off the ground as far as that goes. I use a regular summit Viper and have no problems with 56" bow. I do not use the seat back though, I leave it all folded together and sit on it with the seat straps as tight as I can get them so it is not hanging low. I shoot a 56" Bruin most of the time, and love it.

Over&Under

You can't beat a 50" Ambush recurve from Two Tracks...fast and quiet!

I also have a 29" draw and have recently been shooting a 60" Toelke Chinook. I really like it.  I talked to Dan about it and he said his 58" Chinook is just as good at longer drawlengths. Just an option for you. There are lots of great options out there

centaur

I have a 54" Big Jim TC, and I draw 28", and it works just fine.

Take a hard look at the Shrew Classic Hunter.
Ron's design and Gregg's craftsmanship come together beautifully.  I have 3 Shrew Classic hunters all 54" 28" and at 48#, 52#, 55#. All shoot smooth and handle great on stand.  Lots of good short bows out there and Shrew's are worth a look.

Since you already have a Dalaa riser you could team it with medium limbs and have a shorter bow that will support your draw.

With our Epic recurve limbs a medium will give you a strung bow with the same length as most 58" recurves.

TwoTracks Ambush, short, quiet, fast, great fit and finish, superb pricing.

Is your Dalaa riser the 17" model.  If so get some ILF short limbs and it will make a 58" bow.  How short did you want to go?

Jim Wright

I draw 29"s and have shot and highly recommend Dan Toelke's little Kestral, a 52" recurve. It is extremely well-mannered, very fast and easily accomodated my longer draw. Pete Ward did a highly favorable review on one a couple of years ago.

This same question has been on my mind for a while now. I have been looking at two different bows and they both get really good feedback. One is a Donnie Dow 54" longbow and the other is a Timberhawk "Strike" 54" recurve. I can't make up my mind.

Congrats on the 8pt. Randy, I still have the metal ACS.....Bobby
