This started several years ago, when a good friend (more of a brother) and i talked about getting matching bows. Yea, it's a little corny, but we liked the idea. So Shane rounded up some gun stock quality walnut from a freind of his, as well as some curly maple. The idea at first was for me to build us a couple of longbows. But life and other things got in the way and it kept getting put off.

Enter South Cox of Stalker recurves. Shane met him a few years ago, through a mutual friend. Shane started shooting a Stalker and has been for quite a while. Shane and I discussed the possibility of having South build us a couple twins, but I was always hesitant being a D shaped longbow guy for the past decade.

Fast forward to Memeorial day weekend of this year. I was finally able to meet South in person. What I found was a very genuine and humble guy, who makes works of functioning art. I was also able to shoot one of his static tip recurves. What a nice bow! On that weekend Shane also dropped off two chunks of wood to South. I recognized them and made the inquirery. Shane said since we weren't able to make the longbows, he'd talked to South, and he was going to make him one. About a month later I was able to set up in Colorado at the High Country Shoot next to South again. We talked a lot about bows and hunting. Somewhere in the conversation, he mentioned he thought there'd be enough wood for two risers. When I got home I called Shane, told him the news and we decided to have the twins built.

They are both 62" and 55# at out respective draw length (Shanes short  :)  They both are checkered and have the walnut and stained maple risers, with walnut bellies and myrtle backs.

To say they are pretty is an understatement!!

The thing that suprised me the most about this recurve is how dead quiet it is!! That has always been the turn off for me with recurves since shooting longbows. But I love shooting this recurve!!

The speed is very respectable and it is smooth and shoots like a dream.
Later this month I will be flying back to Cali to let the twins hook up and we'll do some hunting. Bear, pigs and turkeys are on the menu. Should be a great time  :)

Did you make it to NE for your hunt? I have been curious. I almost was gonna invite myself along!! I cancelled my eastern NE hunt because the the bad EHD. I heard 80% of the deer died over there.

I will be up North where Shane lives.

Het Tracy, we did not make it up this year. I heard the EHD was bad too. You are more than welcome to come along, we'll just stop and pick you up  :)

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Excellent!!! I had never heard of Stalker bows until Hope and Faith last year. I had Hope in December and am a believer. South makes incredibly beautiful bows that shoot as good as any I have ever owned.

Congrats on your new bow!

I've got to say that you have one of the prettiest bows I have ever seen. That is outstanding walnut, and the design of the riser really shows off the figure in the wood. Static tip recurves can be very smooth, quiet and fast. My Brackenbury Peerless is the best shooting bow I have ever used. I'm glad to hear that your bow shoots well along with looking so good.

Easily among the most beautiful bows Ive ever seen. It reminds me of fine doubles guns . Enjoy.

Another GREAT bow by South Cox. Congratulations Ryan. They don't have to look great, they have to shoot great. You have ALL that "extra" going on in that bow though. Did South do the checkering? How about a pic of the limb veneers. You and Shane will be stylin' with the twins!
