Widow's Son

I've always been plagued by arrow flight problems. It seems that no matter what I end up with nock high arrow flight. After reading a thread here about the Wensel brothers and the old Bear Weather rest I decided to give it a try. Long story short, now all my bows have the weather rest. Today I was trying to tune some carbon arrows to my B.W. MAII. I just couldn't cure the arrow flight problems. Then I remembered that I had one weather rest left stuck in my tackle box. Problem solved except now I need to order some more.

I keep Bear Weather Rests around as well.  They really do help with some tuning problems.  I remember growing up that most of the bows the hunters used either had a weather rest or a flipper rest.  Did not seem to be that many people shooting off the shelf.

I used them for years with trouble free results and yes they do help with arrow flight.

I wish this forum would have been available when I was starting out. I would have saved a ton of money and frustration.

Nice wood David! Dang that's perty stuff.

Back when I shot recurves and even the old style compounds of my youth I used the Bear Weather rest, they do work great!

Tav

Every year for the short 3 years i have been doing this i have tried to shoot my recurve off of the shelf only to go back to a weather rest.  it's the only way i can get good arrow flight when bareshafting.  love em.

I recall a lot of Weather Rests on Bears; but I also recall a lot of Hoyt and Neet rests on other makes.

I've always been a real stickler for flight, and after trying a weather rest out of curiosity will likely not shoot off the shelf again. Not only can I get perfect flight out of a wider range of arrows but my mistakes in shooting are less evident.

I have always used one on my Quinn recurve.  Awesome rest, but it does not look nearly as nice as the other two bows posted in this thread.  Those are beautiful!

BUCKY

My Dad used them on his bows forever.

Any effect on tiller by using an elevated rest?  Ryan I know you shoot 3 under, does it make a bow quieter because you're moving the nock point up?

Mike, I've talked to a couple of bowyers who say that some people place too much emphasis on tillering...who knows? I know for me that I can get an arrow to tune on any bow regardless of rest or not. In terms of quietness, shooting 3 under and raising the nock point due to a rest now puts my fingers closer to centre of the string. It may in fact be a factor in quietness. I also think that having less contact due to using a rest is the bigger factor.

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

TRAP

Not a weather rest but accomplishes the same thing I believe.  Less contact with arrow shelf while staying close to the hand makes it easy to tune.
