Thunder Heads

Anybody use Thunder heads?? How do they penatrate.

they have been around long time. and are a good reliable head.

They are by far my favorite head for screw in shafts. I know a lot here prefer the COC heads, but a Thunderhead is hard to beat.

I have killed a boatload of animals with Thunderhead 125's. I shot these heads way back because I was "sharpening challenged" and always felt that a really sharp chisel head broadhead was better than a not sharp cut on contact head that I had tried to sharpen. I now shoot German kinetic Silverflame XL's, which I have finally learned how to get really sharp, and know from experience that the penetration is better with the two blades than with the Thunderheads, That being said, you put just about any really sharp broadhead in the right place and it will work just fine.

I have used them a good bit. Wish I still had some. They shot great out of my setup and penetration wasn't an issue. I shot a doe, about 100-120#, straight down through the spine and about half the blades were exposed in the chest cavaty. Granted the impact was not center mass in a vertbra but centered between. Either way it poked in plenty.

My setup is 53# @28" shooting about 600 grn total weight. If your setup has substantial KE I feel the Thunder heads are a great option.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I realized I only had a couple of snuffers left and even those I had sharpened so much that the blades were to thin. I discovered this when I shot into my target and hit low and hit the plastic insert that the front leg goes in and it collapsed the blades on the snuffer. I had never looked at the blade thickness only the sharpness so I seen I had a box of the 125's so now they are on my shafts and lets see now things go in the morning. Thanks again.

I'm sharpening challenged, even with my KME. I bought some of these in 125gr, and they are now my favorite broadhead. My Zwickeys fly great, but I'm tired of trying to sharpen them. Maybe being 'old school' isn't that important to me anymore, just having fun is....

I shot Thunderhead 100's for years out of my compound. Laid a lot of blood trails on the ground with them. Very dependable broadhead for sure!!

Shot 'em years ago out of a compound. Good heads. If I shot alumniums or screw ins would still use 'em.

Thunderheads are now more than 30 years old, that's starting to push "traditional"!

I rarely use them anymore but I still have a soft spot for them, very good heads for sure, and one I often suggest as an option for the sharpening challenged.

Never used them but had a lot of Traditional pals that used them back in the day. I always said if I didn't want to sharpen if would give them a shot. Of course now days lotta choices.
