From the stand, I've seen 3 bucks this morning. First was still pretty dark, big body and good rack, was very dark in timber so I didn't try to call him in with me, figured he would eat me out before it got light nuff to shoot. Next was a good 8, he sneaked in behind me and spotted me. I froze til he grunted and walked off, he was about 35 yds. Last ws a small 8  , went by at bout 30.  Be back later!!

Thanks to Miss Sandy, my two weeks of "rut" vacation, which was supposed to start this past Monday, has been put on hold.  We still don't have power back....its been out since the afternoon of October 29th.

Once this Nor'easter passes through, I'm done with work for a week or so.....power or no power!  My deer processor still doesn't have power either and I'm on a generator, but I hope to be cutting up a deer or two by whatever light I can get available.  Gotta be positive!!!

 

Saw two bucks this morning. They finally seem to be moving on the property I hunt. New scrapes and rubs are popping up. I'll be out again tomorrow morning.

I've seen 2 more small bucks, some does and eleven gobblers who almost got in the clear enuff to try one!

Rattled in a fork and a nice buck bout 1:00, course the fork came right in and the bigger one got nervous and went back in the swamp.......

I ended up seeing either 9 or 10 bucks in my all day sit. It is just hard to tell forkhorns apart, saw 3 ,but two of em coulda been the same one maybe.

Rattled another good one in about 4:00 when I saw him about 150 yds out and leaving. He just didn't commit either, they act like they have had their butt kicked before......

Probably 5 of em out of the 9 or 10 I would have taken had it all worked out.

So all in all a great day, gotta work tomorrow, but will hit it one last time Friday before the guns pop Saturday.

I'll be out again tomorrow morning. Had a good morning today. If I can't make it happen tomorrow morning that will be about it for my bow season. Not much luck once the guns pop off for almost 30 days straight.

Reports from guys all over Missouri are telling me that it all broke loose yesterday. Big bucks hard chasing does all over.

Unfortunately it is about to be in the 70's this weekend...

Missed opening morning of gun due to stuff...

Sat eve found me in a stand very close to a lane that runs in to 2 houses. Not long after I arrived, I had a 6 pt behind me in the thick, but he didn't smell me even tho downwind!

Great, the stand location is workin the wind!

About sunset, a buck materialized from the thick maples 30 yards straight in front of me. Good buck!! I made it to my feet in time and figured he would cross the ditch and give me a broadside at 15 yards.

Nope, he didn't read the playbook, and came up the ditch bottom headon and passed my stand at  15.......

inches!  :D  

Then went on behind me into the thick stuff, and stood awhile. This should be the true test if the wind is workin. Then he idled up the ditch bottom that I came down(carefully not touching any brush) and went on.

He was a 130ish 8pt , but he had g2 and g3 on right side broken off at the main beam! So he had an eye guard and a main beam on that side. I'd like to see the dude that snapped those off, he is a heavyhorned brute.

And so another hunt ends with tag in pocket....    

I'm off work tomorrow, and if the rain stops, I'll be somewhere tonite! Hang on, I may shoot sumpin yet...  

So here I  am this windy afternoon, I put up a new stand this morning, using recon from a trusted fellow longbow hunter who has been playing guide for a young hunter . Has seen a couple good ones thru here in evenings,I will be here til dark or sumpin  comes by.........      

Well, we are waiting??

Well, I kinda blew it. Had a good 8 pt come by at 3:00, been shooting high with this bow, so was tellin myself to hold low. Any guesses where i shot?

Next time, no thinking allowed, just shoot the damn deer!

Yep, perfect behind leg, just 4-5" too low!!

My brain is a dangerous thing to use!  

Yea I know....  the grey is startin to grow in with me...  thinkin is painful
