I think its more respect for the game we pursue. We pursue a  hunt and a creature worthy of respect.

Advertising however has created a lot of people who pursue antlers and not the almighty animal.

well said arwin.

I think those that hunt at longer distances don't have an appreciation of how tough a wary old doe can be to take down.

100% agree...
On TV the term "It's a shooter" just isn't right.
besides that how come 'they' always see shooters and it's still day light and always just before the last commercial break and one that they have pictures of from the last 3 years and............?

Every Deer is a trophy there are none that are gifts, antlers may look nice but a nice old doe ,thats an accomplishment.

I wish AZ allowed us to hunt does. Some of those smart old girls need a lesson.
My son who is stationed back east has yet to shoot a WT doe with a bow. Apparently there is something about a slickheaded whitetail up close that turns his legs to jello and forces his shots to go awry.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight;nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety;is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

ANY deer that makes it past 2-1/2 gets harder to get close to on a majority of hunts. Certain things can and do happen that make exceptions to this rule, but a deer that has had a close encounter very rarely makes that mistake again. Does that are "easy" to kill have either not had any hunting pressure, or are really really used to humans being close by. I'm more worried about being busted by a doe any day. Mature does are some of the most cautious creatures there are!

p.s. Joe - That is the magic of editing and those TV hunters are hunting racks, mostly off managed property where they have the opportunity to pick and choose because the ranch or property manager or guide (whatever) is helping to let those animals grow to full potential, so there's kind of a minimum score limit. It makes for good TV and plays the hunter out as some kind of hero. Kinda like watching NASCAR for the wrecks.

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
