I have a long time friend, who I recently converted to trad bowhunting, him and his 30 year old son.He is a Baptist minister/evangelist and business owner. We have hunted together, taken elk hunting together, gunhunter, but doesnt have much time to bow hunt. I fixed him and his son up with recurves made from compound risers, that I had did some milling work on, one was a ILF conversion, his was a riser I had fitted with Samick SAge #50 limbs and made a D-10 flemish string for it. He had practiced a lot, and was really ejoying it. He was in western KY, preaching a revival this week, and went hunting over there with friends. I get a call from him 8;20 am, excited as a kid at Christmas! He had just shot a small 5pt, but said he was more excited about that than any big buck with a rifle because of the challenge. But to top this off, this was his first deer period with a bow, even though he had bowhunted off and on since the 70's with a compound. He was shooting a carbon express with 150 screw in WW broadheads, zipped right thru both lungs and stuck in the ground, 60 yd recovery. He blood trailed  it up immediately, and it started to get up, he shot it again, finishing it off. He asked me why it ran so far, and I explained that a broahead kills by blood loss, not hydrostatic shock like a bullet, and that 60 yds was a short blood trail. He was all fired up, cant wait for him to get good signal and send me some pics! He is sold on trad bows, and more fired up to go back bow huntin this weekend! Just thought I would share!

That's awesome Koger! You have any pics of those bows, sounds like a neat conversion.

Congrats to your buddy on his first bow deer!

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

BigBucks anTrucks, pm me your smart ph# or email, can send some pics. I have made sevral of these over the years, 30 or so, for the 4H kids I  coach and to get new folks into trad cheap. I have come up with some really good shooting tough bows, most for less than $100.
