I'm moving to Charleston, SC for my work. I'm looking for some info on places to shoot, some guys to shoot with, and any info on public hunting would be great. I love to go stumping. I'm moving from the Pee Dee region. I'm very experienced in public hunting in the PD area. I don't know anyone from the area.  Thanks in advance.

Check out the Francis Marion National Forest for hunting opportunities. Season starts August 15th and runs through Jan. 15th. Believe it is the longest hunting season in the US. Course I havn't hunted there since the mid-70's so you better check the legal guidelines. Hard to beat the low country if your an outdoor person. Congrats on your move.

Thanks Bill. Hopefully someone will chime n from the area that I can shoot with.

Francis Marion (Hell Hole Swamp) is one of my favorite areas but been hunting private spot for last few years.....lots of public land but lots of pressure too unless you go into the really thick stuff like at hell hole.

season here in this Game Zone (6) runs from 15 Aug through 1 Jan...nonstop with no differentation of weapons allowed on private land...only on public land.  You can hunt hogs or coyotes year round on private...on public has to be during big game seasons with proper licensing.

I hunted with LeeinSC up near your current spot a few years ago for hogs....my mother is from Horry County.

I shoot mostly in my back yard or out at my lease....but getting my brother and his son interested too so may have to find some place to stump shoot in off season.  Give me  a yell when you get settled.

I used to live in Charleston and hunted Francis Marion some. I always heard good things about Hellhole Swamp. I hunted around the Edisto some and around the Hampton/Varnville area. The hunting seemed to be much easier out that way but was a further drive. Good luck out there.

I am up in Darlington Co. Joined a hunt club that has some good area, just no time to hunt with new job. Plus the heat has been a little too much.

Mike,
I live just outside of Summerville in Colleton County. There are some good WMA's within an hour or less from Charleston that have designated archery weeks. Botany Bay, Donnelly, Bear Island are managed for big deer. You have Edisto WMA, Santee cooper Wma. A little further South around Ridgeland is Palachacola, Hamilton Ridge,(my favorite). PM me when you get in town we'll set up a meet. I live in the country and have some land we can get some shooting in.

Sounds good Charlie. I've hunted Santee Cooper years ago. I wasn't sure what was close, besides the FM.
