Question for those who DO use feeders?

I have one of those drum type of feeders. My problem is I can put 100 pounds of corn in it and in 3 days it is GONE. Thinking about a timed type of feeder. Any advice on brand etc thanks. Bill

Check out South Texas Tripods and Feeders. We have been running about a dozen of these feeders for about 7 or 8 yrs for pigs. We have had very few problems with them. The motor always works and the timer holds the proper time very well. We fill feeders and change the batteries every four weeks. There expensive but it will pay for it's self in no time if your going through 100 lbs of corn in three days.

If it is a free choice feeder you have then I'm surprised 100# lasts 3 days.

The best set-ups use 12v motors and I can tell you from experience that one of the best timers out there is "The Timer" brand.

I agree with Bisch. We run seven spincast corn feeders on our place. We have never had a problem with The Timer

I use the Moultrie Pro Hunter models and they have been very reliable. They are easy to use and the battery lasts all year long. They are very affordable too ($50) and they are very similar to the older style Spin Cast feeder models which were much better than their current offerings.

HCR's whole set is trouble free. There timer is easy to set and they are trouble free. I don't know where all they sell them,but they made them on the way to my old lease in Burnet Tx.

I am with Bisch, "The Timer" is th best out there made in Odessa,Tx by West Texas game feeders. They have a unit that screw on a drum all self contained with a solar panel stay with the 12volt

I've used a Moultrie Easy Feeder for a year now and no problems. 6V but it kept its charge all season. No malfunctions either.

Speaking from experience, if you have bears around, don't spend money on expensive timers. My first one lasted 2 weeks, second one 2 days.

The guys on my lease use them all over the place, we have had several problem bears destroy them. I have helped set them up to be bear proof. We use a rope and pulley system to hang them well out of reach of the bears. Now the guy only put 50# of feed in them due to the weight of them. They seem to feed on one bag for about 8-10 days.

I'm glad this thread came up. With feeders, do the deer become more cautious or become night time feeders? Or do you set the feeder to go off in the morning for daytime activity?
I have a new property in CT in zone 12, which is legal to bait, but I live an hour away and can't hunt it on a regular basis, so if I choose to bait, I'm interested in how the deer react to it.
Also, are you locking your feeders to trees, anchors, etc. to prevent theft?

I had a Moultrie deer feeder once, and a Moultrie fish feeder....send back 4 timers in 3 years. yeah, they replaced them but what a pain.

Don't use Moultrie anymore so don't know if they fixed their timer issues or not.

Those TX feeders are the BOMB IMO.
