Here's how much penetration I got.

This is a 520 grain arrow coming out of a 45# longbow. Remember, it was a quartering shot.

Of course, after the shot he ran for the thickest, meanest stuff he could find.

I trailed him 40 yards and found the arrow. Looked like liver blood and didn't smell like guts. There was a little blood, but not much. My guess is one lung at best.

He looked like he was on a trail so I followed. Man, it was thick in there. I had to leave my bow and back pack behind.

I went another 20 to 25 yards in the thick stuff and couldn't go any further. I then made a circle around it looking for an exit. No dice.

I hate for any animal to suffer, but I'm confident he's dead. Unfortunately, there won't be any hero pic.

Oh well, at the end of the day there is one less pig in Texas.  It certainly was a fun hunt!

A little further down the line, I found this.

Someone built a hog trap. Again, illegal on this property. I hope they were at least checking it once a day while it was functioning.

For the record, I don't have a problem with trapping, hogs...just not on Corps of Engineering land where it's illegal.

TxAg

Last but not least....

The best hog sign of the day came a half mile from the parking spot. I should've walked that way first, haha.

whew!!! That was fast and furious typing and picture posting.

Best part, is no wait for yall. Hope you enjoy.

Sounds like a great first hunt out there Jeff....'cept for not finding your boar.  I'm sure there'll be more time spent out there so I'll be following your hunts.

Good luck! Rob

Just because you are passionate about something, doesn't mean you don't suck at it.

It was a good time. Looking forward to going more often as it cools down.

Ready for some deer hunting  next weekend!
