...to kill my first whitetail with trad gear. Last night it all came together. At about 6:00 I could hear footsteps behind me steadily approaching. normally this would have been a welcome sound to my ears but she was approaching from directly downwind. However, the breeze had stopped for a minute or two when she arrived so while she was hesitant, she couldn't quite figure it out and proceeded. She walked beside my tree at six yards and stepped into one of my shooting lanes. She stopped and looked around the field to make sure the coast was clear. when she looked away, I stood and drew in what is now a complete blur and sent the Gamegetter on its way. The arrow hit slightly north of my intended spot and hit her spine. She dropped immediately and it was all over, my first trad kill on the ground.

My set-up was a Striker Slapstick 50@28", Easton Gamegetter 500's, and 175 grain VPA Terminators.

After lodging in the spine, the VPA didn't have a scratch on it...just blood.

When I put down my compound, it took me 5 years to  take my first traditional harvest.  That was many years and many deer in the past.  Congrats  You'll never forget the first one.   :archer:

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki
