Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Wool X3 !

Best thing you can buy and the best way to stay warm is to create your wool layering system. This starts with the base layer and may be the most expensive of all. As Joe says above, "Merino wool sweaters from Goodwill and Army surplus pants are cheap layers " You can find Asbell pullovers pretty cheap too.

Several brands of wool base layers out there... Cabelas, Ullfrotte' Smartwool, Minus 33, First Lite, etc, etc. A Top and Bottom may cost you between $150-200 but it will last you forever with a little care and you will thank us later ! We have never been warmer since we bit the bullet about 5 years ago and bought our Ullfrotte' base layers in 400gr thickness. Simply cannot hunt without it now. Plan on buying some Minus 33 170gr thickness this year for early season and to compare with our Ullfrotte'. JMHO

Lightweight merino wool sweaters work about as well as the high dollar wool long underwear for a fraction of the cost.  I have several posted over in the clothes classifieds.

Under Armor is terrible if you are just sitting still. Air insulates and a compression fit does not. Cabela's  thermawool is is much better.

I'm a wool fan, too. Nothing beats it for layering performance while hunting.

But I confess to using milsurp synthetics for sleeping comfort. My Gore-tex bivy bag is nice, too.   :)

Thanks for all of the answers.
Like wool myself.
Thanks killinstuff for a direct answer on under armour.

Hit the GoodWill store for some cheap wool sweaters and layer them as needed.

If it's windy, you can put a tight weave cotton camo shirt or jacket OVER your wool sweaters.

Always remember, wear wool AGAINST your skin!!!!! Any other "base layer" against your skin will just defeat the purpose.....   :banghead:
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!
