We have a new sporting goods store in town (a chain) called Academy Sports that actually keeps a fairly decent hunting section.  Actually have Magnus 2 blade screw ins.  Any was getting running shoes for my daughter and of course cruised the outdoor section.  They had 24x24x10" bag targets for $19 - same size as Morrell's Yellow Jacket target and half price.  That's cheaper than I can get new covers for my 10 year old Morrell Eternity target.  Working great for trad tackle, even fired up a 65# compound with carbons, no problem.  For about $20 out the door, you'd be hard pressed to find anything too much cheaper - even homemade.  I'll let you know in a year or two whether it was worth it!

You can buy new 100# feed bags at Blue Seal for .75(same material as the bag targets) that the Eternity Targets stuff into real nice. That's how I refaced mine and it is 6 years old now.

Yep, they will last a couple of years. They are worth it. I'm due for a new one   :)  ...Van

feed bags or even better geotextile fabric stuffed with shrinkwrap for free from the grocery store....lasts forever and is waterproof... best 1.00 target on the market.

Van,

What type material is the backstop behind your target?   REM

Yup, medium-sized feed bags.  I stuff mine tight with recycled plastic grocery bags, old plastic whatnot, old  clothes/rags, etc, and tie opening off tight with wire or twine.  Once shot out simply slide another bag over the old one.

Can be hung verticle or horizontal.  On horizontal bags I like to Magic Marker on a deer's 'shoulder crease' and hindquarter, with no aiming spot behind the crease (except for arrow holes).  Have even been known to paint the bags for effect(leftover gray or brown housepaint or spraypaint works), except for white 'bellyhair'.  No bullseye makes it necessary to pick a spot, and when hung at the right height the overall shape/size is not unlike that of a deer's torso.  Shoot it from one side for awhile, then turn it around and shoot the 'puffed out' portion back into shape.  A cheap and effective 'deer target' if 3-D targets aren't in the budget.

OconeeDan

That is a good cheap target.  Thanks, Steve.

Stone Knife

I like cheap! $20 is cheap enough, but feed bags are cheaper, i find them on the side of the road around here.

Van you'd get more life out of your target if ya aimed for them 4 colored circles   :goldtooth:

When it comes to cheap, stumps are hard to beat.  ;)

I was wondering how Stone Knife stuffed those bags so square!!

You all got me motivated.  Ran down to the local grain elevator and picked up 10 woven plastic feed bags for .50 each.  Then I noticed that they had a ton of plastic in their dumpster.  I asked if I could have some.  They said "help yourself".  So I filled up some of the bags, stuffed seriously full, with plastic.  So for 5.00 I got 5 fully stuffed targets and 5 extra bags.  Yeah.

I have a stack of those in my backyard James for refilling targets with. The manager at my store loves me taking them away for free.    ;)
