Just got home from a 4 day solo elk hunt. First time hunting with a traditional bow (Chekmate Beaver Creek). Had a great time! No elk, managed to call in a small 2 pointer (need 3 to be legal), but no matter how hard I tried I couldnt get him to grow the third point! Oh well! Most noticable thing was the weight of the bow, or lack of it!! Was used to lugging around a compound which weighed a ton! Had a nice grey wolf walk to within 30 yards of me. Couldn't believe he got that close. Could have gotten closer, as he was walking towards me, but I chickened out! Had my new Arrow Bush Boots on my feet, with tire crumb soles. They were amazing, although my only complaint would be is that they would be better if they had a full bellows tongue. Would keep a lot of crap out of the boot, and would help with the waterproofing. Very comfortable and would highly recommend them! Most excitement came on the last night in camp when I had a Mexican standoff with a momma bear (black) and 2 cubs! Thank God for Mr. Mossberg!! Had to put a slug just off her port side to convince her to choose the "flight" option instead of the "fight" one!! Slept with one eye open that night!! All in all a good time, but the weather could have been cooler!

Even with no game on the ground, you had an exciting time!  that's what it's all about.

Hi from B.C., Bill.  :wavey:  This is my first fall with a stick bow as well and I got to agree with you, it's nice to just be packing my recurve. Good luck hunting the rest of this fall.

Incredible experience for you elk or no elk.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Yup, it's not all about killing something! Had a great number of experiences on that trip!! As everyone knows, the funs over as soon as you release the arrow/pull the trigger!

Some of the best hunts that I've ever had resulted in no game on the ground.Stick with it.It will come together.

No elk, but you've got some good stories to tell!

Congrats on what sounds like a great hunt!

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I second the light weight feel.  I love that about stickbows.  Congrats on the hunt.
