looking for something great of course.
recurve or hybrid

tried & liked Greatree Goshawk. BUT, I hear there are great alternatives out there for not that much more.

Omega Long Bow

just heard about the Maddog  Kaliska  http://www.maddogarchery.com/

is there anyone else that should be considered?

Stumpkiller

Watch the classifieds and that large e-auction site.  You can occasionally find bows like Browning Explorers and Cobras for $100 to $120.

Easily equivalent or superior to a modern $750 custom.

Bear Kodiak & K. Hunter, D. Palmer Hunter, Ben Pearson Hunter, Wing Presentation II & 4 Red Wing Hunters (LH & 3 RH), Browning Explorer, Cobra II & Wasp, Martin/Howatt Dream Catcher, Root Warrior, Shakespeare Necedah.

Take a look at a Samick Sage recurve. At only $139.99 this bow out shoots a lot of others that are in a little higher price range. I have shot a few of them and they really do shoot great. If your looking for the best (in my opinion) bang for your buck you ought to try one.

Quinn Stallion is my number one pick at any price. Just under$300 new, 4-6 weeks you can have one, alum. riser that is bomb proof, and shoots great, will shoot a wide variety of shafts/spines with very little tuning. I can usually have ond done in 15 minutes! And they are as fast as most custom bows out there, which they are, just really designed well and affordable.

jkcerda,   Take a look at traditionalarcherysales.com   Len Busbe trades in used traditional bows and he has a bunch of them. you can brouse the photos and prices and find yourself a bow. He will not misrepresent the condition. The prics are reasonable. I highly recommend it.

Maddog is an excellent bow for the price.  Used in the classifieds is where you will get the most bow for the dollar.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

My thoughts exactly. There are some great values in the classified ads if you have some time to be patient and check it often.

Classifieds, best buy for the money
62" Super D, 47#s @ 25-1/2"
58" TS Mag, 53#s @ 26"
56" Bighorn, 46#s @ 26.5"

Hey jkcerda, I have a Sage and Omega and love shooting them both.  The Omega is FAST.  If you enjoy working on things yourself you may want to get one unfinished and do the finish work.  You can save a little money and can shape the handle to fit your shooting style and hand.  Both very good bows for the money.

For $324 TT limbs and a Hoyt Excel riser. Excellant bow. I have high end bows and this bow is a shooter.

BRIARS

I agree with Craig. But since the Excel riser was on back-order I got a black bear riser off ***** and sent it to Sam Dunham to have warfed. I coupled it with the TT limbs and got an amazing shooting bow for $230.
