Where I generally bow hunt is about a 45 minute walk all up hill, so my drag is downhill so generally I drag it out with a short rope around the deers neck with a handle I made at work. Trick is getting the rope length correct so the deers shoulder is off the ground while dragging. Makes the dragging much easier.  Still not an easy task, but I prefer to leave the deer whole as I am not very good at boning a deer out in the mountains.  Now if I am in a tough spot I will bone it out. I keep an old feed sack or pillow case in my back pack for that reason.  I just have to spend a few extra minutes cleaning off all the dirt, rocks, leaves, etc when I get home.

I use a green tobagon that I stash out in the bush.

Chris, you just invite another NA hunter to hunt with you and let him bone it for you, then you pack it out.  :)  LOL

Seriously though, the above links are great, and I have a DVD of Warren Womack's gutless method on a whitetail. PM me your addy and I'll let you borrow it.

Those painted rocks are steep, huh?

Almost a mile in the swamp....this deer...

Is boned out and in this pack...

This deer by gps=straight line to the truck is 2 miles...

In the pack boned out and a purty easy walk out...

I like your method RC but on most WMA's here in Florida we are not allowed to "dismember" the deer before being checked.

Thing that gets me though is that there are no check station at most of the WMA's I hunt. This is something i need to investigate.

That's it Billy...Good job.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting Warren, but I'm sure he's still slaying them down south.

I have a deer cart as well but cutting it up n deboning it might be the best plan if the terrain is that rough.

ALwoodsman

Thanks for the replies. It is some steep rocky terain and all up hill so a cart isn't going to work.  Looks like my best option is to cut it up in the field.

#1- Kill deer
#2-Call buddy tell him you got a pope and young
#3-Act like you really hurt your back
#4-Fall to the ground and have some sort of spasm
#5- If #3 and 4 did work for you then make certain to act hurt for at least one week after he dragged your deer for you...
#6-This may only work one time and can lose a friend once the cats out of the bag..  :D

ALwoodsman

Well, I did actually have back surgery earlier this year so that would be a valid excuse.

Coilspring, I sent you a PM.
