I, stupidly, seperated the middle joint on my right hand ring finger.  It is the bottom finger of my draw hand.  I shoot split finger.  I did not break it but pulled it out of joint at about a 45 degree angle.  Had to have it put back in place.  It is very swollen at the middle joint and sore.

I need your help.  What ways can I draw my 50# longbow without that finger.  I have tried two fingers, both split and below.  I am getting horrible arrow flight and poor accuracy.

If you have some ideas please throw them into the hat.  I have a mere two weeks before deer season opens and I would kick myself in the ass if I could reach.

I am open to all ideas.

Thanks, Bret

I'm with Vermonster for sure-a lot easier than switching to lefty!

I'd have to concur, witht he wrist strap release idea

I'd go with a mechanical release and a whisker biscuit, you big girly man! I'll see if Dr. Dale can't fix you up a nice poultice to put on your booboo. Are you sure you didn't do this just so you can get an X-Bow permit? Wait till I tell Dad about this! You're gonna be in trouble then.

Gentlemen, thank you for your concern and honest replies.

Mr. Haverstick, I am inclined to believe that you are a man that would rob a school girl of her lunch money to pay for your lacivious habits. You may even be low enough to cast scorn and derision upon a poor beggar simply seeking advice and compassion.  May your hunting season be fraught with misses and ticks in places that the sun don't shine!      :bigsmyl:

If you do use two fingers you will have to retune the bow.

How do you retune the bow for two fingers pops?  thanks, Bret

Brian Krebs

I have been shooting two fingers for 50 years; didn't know not to  :)
I don't know how my bow is tuned differently; I have shot other peoples bows with no problem... but I learned to shoot with mismatched arrows; so my mind is always making adjustments.
Two fingers makes for a good release - for me  at least!
I once broke my wrist and used a release strapped to above my elbow so I could draw ( used a belt to get the distance for my draw correct).
When I broke my shoulder I shot a buck with my bow duct taped to my foot.
I would practice with two fingers and if you can't get good; then use a release until your mended  :)

Brent I don't even want to hear any excuses about your shooting. And heal soon I'll see you in Oct. Give it to him Darren. I've got some crutches if you need them. Let me know. Greg

I was thinking a pink arm sling might garner me some love and tenderness!!!  :D

Something similar happened to me a few years back.I cut the ring finger almost off. I was shooting a 70# Brackenbury at the time.I went to a 55# Wing CII,the lightest bow I had. I could shoot it with just two fingers but the sewn on finger kept bleeding a lot so I had to stop. I tried out several releases until I found one that fit my face and came off almost automatically as I tightened my back at full draw. I dont foresee using it again. If you want it pm me and it`s yours. I don`t remember the brand but it just worked the best out of all the ones I tried.

Feel your pain.  I smashed the end off of my index finger and it required a graft.  Did I say 4 days before season openened.  Trad bow and compound were both out.
Good luck, Brant
