This afternoon I took my 51 Lb recurve bow to my pal Bentpole's house and did some shooting. I have always shot 28" 2016's with 100 grain heads. Tom noticed that while I was at my full draw there was about 3 to 4 inches of shaft sticking out front. We discussed cutting the shafts a couple inches but we weren't sure what weight head to put up front. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Leave the shafts alone if they are flying correctly.  I shoot full length GT3555's - not because I have to (my draw length is only 27"), but because that is what that particular arrow shaft "wanted" when I tuned my bow with it.  I shot them bare shaft with the weight I wanted added behind the insert to get me to the desired grains per draw weight, and right away - perfect bareshafting.  I saw absolutely no reason to go start cutting on them if they flew right.  I'm glad I didn't cut any of them - I shoot all my GT3555's full length, and weight them all the same (by groups for each bow) - perfect results every time.

Now... if your arrows are showing a weak spine for your bow when bareshafting, and you have that amount of overhang... then that is another story.  I'd either change to a stiffer spine arrow, or cut the ones you have - personal choice - but I like to have a little hanging off the front.

Good luck, no matter what you decide to do.  Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend.

All the best,
Glenn
If at first you don't succeed.... buy newer / better equipment!

I used to use 2016's with 125grn points that where cut 29"BOP... at 25"BOP I would guess 190 or 200grn will do just fine. You might try 160grn point & 100grn insert too...

Thank you for your thoughts guys. I have been shooting this set up for a few years since I converted from wheel bows. My thinking was of wheel bow origins, light heads more speed. Wasn't until recently I though of kinetic energy and heavier heads. They fly real good with the 28" 2016's with the 100 grain heads. I was just courious is all.

Leave em alone, Bro...your season is on, play with the gear in Feb...

Leave them alone for sure.  At 25" them babies will spine about 100 pounds.
