I was advised by several experienced trad shooters to invest in a "tillering string" when setting up new ILF set-ups.  What is a tiillering string, and any advice as to where to buy (not much on DIY)?

I use a tillering string when building selfbows. It's an extra long single loop Flemish string. I use a bowyer's knot on the other end and can set the length from no brace height at all to a working brace height as the bow progresses to finished.
How that relates to an ILF bow is a mystery to me.

No, the guys on TradTalk (another trad forum).  How can this help me determine what string length I need for a bow set-up, and where can I buy one?
