I have been looking for one of John's 68-69' Super Kodiak like recurves in my weight range for some time. Got lucky and found one.

This one has the black phenolic riser, red accent stripes, Rosewood caps. The limbs have bamboo cores sandwiched between black glass.

Specifications are 62", 48# @ 28". With a 8-1/2" brace it is stable and quiet and shoots a 570 grain arrow real quick.

I think with this acquisition I have owned all of the bows that John builds. I have never had one that was not a good shooter.

I'll try to post a photo tomorrow.

Is there a 12 step program for a Big River addiction?

Hot Hap

Only if he has 12 models.

Sounds like a nice one.

No way that bow will make it to hunting season, you'll be back to a longbow by sept 1st-ha!

I never go away from the longbow but I every now and again need to confirm what I do not like about recurves which is really all about noise.

If I could get them as quiet as a longbow things might be diffeent.

Come opening day I will most likely have a Hill style bow in hand.

That's right, as all my fly fishing gear sits in a closet waiting for retirement

Jay,
How long a wait was it for that beauty?

Troy:

I purchased it used but knowing John McDonald I bet the wait would be no more than a couple months and likely less.

I have the bow tuned now and pound for pound it is one of the fastest bows I've owned. Real stable and pretty quiet too.

I shoot the Super Kodiak design very accurately. Not sure why and I really don't care as I just like the fact I look at the spot and the arrow appears there after I release.

I really like the 62" length as I am drawing 31.5" with no troublesome stack or finger pinch.

It is a real good design and bow which is no surprise since it came from John's shop.

wow! thats a beaut!  well it's a shame it won't kill nothin this year, drop it off at my place and i'll see if i can draw blood with it! LOL

Cyclic-Rivers

Jay, real nice.

you wouldn't want to trade it for a real Kodiak would ya?

I too cannot resist John's fine bows.

That one is nice.
Relax,

You'll live longer!
