A little back ground about me. I hunted with firearms for twelve years then I stopped hunting all together. Twenty years later, the hunting bug is bitting again. This time around, I wanted do it the traditional way. But since I have been out of the game for so long I and never hunted in Texas, I need your recommendations and advices for places to hunt with traditional gears in Texas.

Any experience with hunt ranches in Texas? I found The Diamond C ranch in Caddo on-line. Looks interesting.

I live in Dallas.

One more thing, I prefer stalk instead of stand.

If you are looking for public land I beleive there is some not too far from Dallas.  You can check out texas parks and wildlife website for a list of places.  As far as day leases go I am no help as i don't hunt those.  Lack of funds.

Yep lake Whitney and Aquila lake both have good bowhunting just have to buy a permit. Not sure of the cost but it aint much prob $50 or $60.And they are not far from you and you can camp at the lake camp ground. Look up Texas parks and Wildlife all the info will be there.Also Granger lake for hogs and camping on the spot also.....

I looked more closely at those ranches and their pricing are pretty high. Fifty/sixty dollards for a permit is much more affordable.

Never been there personally, but I have only heard the best about Diamond C, but I think that it is more stand hunting than spot and stalk.

This is only my opinion on hunting. Try the different hunting methods. Each style has their merits and applications. People ask me all the time if I hunt on the ground or in a tree. I say yes. I let the terrain and conditions dictate how I hunt. Again, I haven't killed the vast amount of game as you see others posting but I have been blessed to be able to put meat in the freezer every year. I also hunt places new and familiar to me on both private and public lands.

If there's any pressuse where you go. Stick with a gun. Because thats the only way to stalk pressured deer. Because pressured deer are next to impossable unless for hunting young doe's and fawns. But good luck on your walk. Because thats what it will be. If you pick out a outfitteing ranch that means pressured animals.
 Those spot and stalk hunts you see on TV are differntly on privitive land with no pressure. Or you'll be takeing those 60 and 80 yard shots you see on TV.
 It can happen but unlikely unless you stumble apond something. It would'nt be by design.  Sorry to sound so negitive Put I hunted over 40 years and found to always go with the odds and not to wast my time.
 If the time, condishions and place is right I'd also go for it I've just never seen them all come together at once.
 There is one and only one time and place I'll stalk. It's iin standing corn with a ghillie peeking rows when the winds blowing hard. I've arrowed 5 bucks like this 2 in there beds. One of those with as knapped head.
 And must have blown a dozzen other chances.
