Another Arrow Setup Question (Humor Me, Please)

How much total weight do you guys shoot up front? Coming from compounds and 100-125 grain broadheads, I'm a little nervous about the amount of weight hanging off the front of my arrow.

I started with STU's and have tweaked a little since.

Does this sound reasonable?

Bow:

66" D-Shaped Bamabow Hunter model.
53# @ 28. I'm probably drawing about 28 1/2" when I do it right.
Brace height: 7 1/8"

Arrows (as of now):

GT Trads 5575 (.400)
3 - 5" feathers
100 grain inserts
175 grain field points
1" aluminum footing
8" arrow wraps

That's 275 grains on the front of my arrow - twice what I'm accustomed to with compounds. Does this seem reasonable, or should I have gotten weaker shafts?

I'd hate to be the animal on the receiving end.

If they are flying right for you then yes, that sounds about right.

What is your total arrow weight and gpp ratio?

How is the arc of the flight? Out to 15-20yds you should be good but drop after 20 would significantly increase.

I limit myself to 12-15 yard shots. Preferably 10-12 though.

I shoot almost the exact same setup except I'm shooting Beman ICS shafts with 300 total grains up front for a total arrow weight of 605gr.  Bareshafts fly true and are very forgiving once fletched.

They seem to fly pretty well, but since I'm new to trad gear, I don't feel like I'm consistent enough to really tell.

I was using 145g points. If I made a really good shot, they seemed to fly well. I tried 175g points yesterday, and I think they're a little more forgiving of my form, which leads me to believe they may be better matched.

So far, I haven't shot past 20 yards because that's as far as I can get in my back yard. So, I don't know how much drop I get past that.

Total weight of the arrow is 586 with 10.7 gpp.

STU's currently shows my arrows as being 2.2 pounds weak.

WESTBROOK

Sounds like a great setup as long as they fly well. If 175 seemed to help, try a 200 point just for the heck of it.

Most good carbon setup that I've heard show up realy week on Stu's calculator, just the nature of carbons.

Thanks, you guys are making me feel a little better about it. I've just never shot such a high foc arrow.

I actually did try 200g too. I didn't see any noticeable improvement.
