I just received the new 3R catalog and saw the wind checker listed.  This is a puff on some thread. I used to put thread and some duck feather but I attchaed on the string at the top loop. Only problem is when drawing the feather would wrap around and then get stuck in the string groove. So is attaching it lower down the string like 3R pic better?  I loved it for a quick visual without moving

I just take about 10" of sewing thread, double it, and tie to the bottom of the top string loop.

That's what I did too but would eventually twist around then get stuck under the string.  I'm thinking tying it like an 1" or 2 lower would prevent this.  But then the down feather might die faster with the more string movement/shooting.  Or am I just over thinking it.  I'm goig to try it when I get home

on my longbows I could just tie it to the top of the string, on a recurve it just wraps around everything once you shoot.
I used dental floss and maribou (spelled wrong but they use it to make flies for fishing)

I've done it both places.  Doesn't make much difference.  If you attach it further down the string, it will wrap around it several times until it is almost tight to the string.  They both work, just have to take a few seconds to unwind it every now and then.  

Also, if you use a light enough string, and/or fray the end, don't really need the feather.  I've always felt that it could spook a critter at close range.

One additional thing you might do is tie a light piece of thread directly behind the broadhead on your no. 1 arrow.  Then, when you have an arrow nocked on stand, you will always know the wind direction, even as you're readying for a shot.

I use both bow tip and arrow wind indicator threads.  One works while walking/stillhunting, the other while on stand.

I use the filamentous dental floss and purposely fray one end,  about 2"-3" on a 6" piece.  I tape it to the inside of my top limb.  It stays away from the string.  If you tie a knot in the floss at the tape end (for under the tape) it stays put better.

The frayed floss does not need any feather at all.

Bubbles.  That's the answer!

I use a thin 6inch piece of flo orange thread and stick it into the feral at the end of my arrow. Then screw in my broadhead. Too light and small to effect arrow flight and it's always right in front of you. I put 1 piece in each of my arrows.

I'm doing the dental floss thign already... but I love the addition of bubbles!  awesome thinking.  that would be a kick.  :-)

Thanks everyone! Well I'll take some bubbles from my 3yr old daughter   . Chuck I like your method will try it tonite since its raining here.  I'm hog hunting Sat afternoon to try it out, my daughter and I made some corn kool aid souring as we speak

What tape also? Duct would hold up

Mix some deer lure in your bubbles and you can have a scent dispersal system too!

I use a 1" piece of plastic electrical tape.

For distance checking, I have used. .  and liked, pieces of salmon egg yarn (fly tying stuff) in some fluorescent color.    Take a 3-6" piece and grab a few filaments and release them to the air.  You can see it 50 yards away and watch the filaments drift with the wind.
