So, I got my bow strung up, string stretched, nock found, etc...  And the arrow fly like DARTS!  so accurate and it seems almost effortless to throw these 750 gr arrows down range.

6 years ago I began a 3 piece take-down project, my first.  It was made on a form from Herb Meland, of Pronghorn.  Since then I've made several self bows, but this was my first and only three-piece.  Roughly a couple days into shooting it the riser came apart completely.  real bummer.  In the end that was fine, cause the riser was UGLY, my fault. I tried to reglue, etc.. but gave up in absolute failure and total frustration.

Now many years later I pulled it out from under the scrap heap and thought... "I wonder".  I asked for some thoughts by the guys here on the bow building forum, and ya'll were real helpful.  and...Well, many years later I finally have beat this riser.  It was reshaped by myself and an artistic friend.  It was cut apart and reglued, and made to look right.  I got a string from Josh at OliverStacey... and with anxious trepidation I went out to shoot my first 3-piece bow.  And it shoots AWESOME!!! absolute darts to where they should go and very quiet, while being dead in the hand.  It came out lighter then I expected, its 77# @ 29.5", I was shooting for 84ish.  But it is very comfortable to shoot as a result.

to finish her off I'll add a leather grip and some better bow bolts/anlter knobs, if I can find them.

I absolutely cannot wait to send a Simmons or big-3 tipped arrow, depending on tuning, on the way to an elk this fall!!!

I would leave the bow exactly like you have it. Kinda gives it character with those bolts. Dress up your next one but this one would be special.

Patients pays off.  Glad to see you out it all together.  What did you do to the riser to make it all black?

As for the limb bolts, I have a set from Brian (Tall Tines).  Every set I have seen of his is good looking and functional.

Mike, regrettably it still has the red accent line.  IT's just considerably thinner because thats what we ripped through to reglue.  The handle itself is smaller too, which is good since I have smaller hands.

Listen, I know there are guys here who can make prettier bows in their sleep.  You guys are phenomenal.  However, this is my ONLY bow i've made to date that is in a hunting weight.  The only one that ended up working and shooting great, and it took several years to complete.

Just remembered this.  This bow will be getting another crack again this year.  again, I dont even really like the looks of it, but its got some great karma.

Mike you nearly proved prophetic last year...

If he would have had his fifth point he would have been my biggest, though he was a very exciting hunt.  But, he barely hit 300 with a 2 inch dink 5th and a couple smallish thirds.  So we'll settle for third.      :help:

I don't see anything wrong with that bow. Not bad looking at all, plus a bow that shoots good is always pretty!
