My best friend's son- 2008- Stony Rapids, SASK

19 9/16" or something like that- very very close to 20" bear if I recall.

Took four of us big burly types using a military stretcher to get it out to the road...a lot of hard-breathing stops along the way!

Robertson Stykbow- cedar shaft- Magnus head- first bowkill for this fine young man.

His Dad was in the tree with him, they watched this bear run a sow around the tree for over an hour before he gave the right shot op-

Down in four or five seconds, less than 30 yards from tree.

Sorry about the poor quality, gotta fix my scanner.
This brute was HUGE. Its very tough to get a pic that really shows the sheer size of a bear laying on the ground, Bill's pic above is great!

.I dont give a hoot about scoring but my friend is a measurer and "HAD" to do the skull. It would be in the Boone and Crockett book with a Silvertip recurve. I wont give exact numbers, but over 21" net.It drives him insane that I wont enter it, and the guide I used wont even speak to me. Whatever.
When I skinned it and hung it up stretched between two trees like a rug, there was a foot over my head to its tail and from its ears forward were laying on the ground...I'm 6 feet.
Look at the width of the paw on that guy.
A quick pass through and it was over in about 45 seconds.
I've taken 5 bears with the recurve, tell your son no problem!

Heres another from 1989.
Both bears from northern Alberta. Much smaller but still a great animal...my first trad kill!

Ray\\'s bear

Here's the link to my biggest. Just over 18 1/2 inches.  Not bad for a northern Michigan bear taken close to populated area.

Not a giant like many of those posted above but it sure was a pretty bear! Also getting to shoot it from the ground close up and personal made it special. Keep posting guys, I never get tired of seeing those pumpkin headed brutes!

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Thanks Brad! Didn't use my Widow on this one (shhhhhhhh), but I will be next month up at Squapan!  Theres some awesome bears on this thread!!!

Taken a few years back in Manitoba, nice bear but not as big as the camera makes it look.  RW

I wasn't aware of adifference between net and gross scores on a bear.

Gross is "green" scored after its  first cleaned. It then has to go through a drying period to get the "net" score to be legit. This is what I'm told, I really dont know or care about scoring rules.
The #'s dont impress me . The pics and stories of all these bears...every one....impresses me. All of equal admiration! No matter the size!
I LOVE bear hunting, just seeing them gets me going every time.

Quebec 2010 spring bear...329# so far the biggest one taken at Bear Quest.  Didn't score him but his skull was bigger than my previous P&Y bear that was 19 3/8.  I've been lucky enough to tag three P&Y qualifying bears...but All the rest of them were just as special!  Been doing it for a dozen years now...tippit

Had this guy in front of me for about 20 minutes before I shot.  I'm a short guy and could lay my bow on the stand platform without stretching.  He was 15 feet from the tree at the shot.  Don't fret youngster, dad will be just fine.
