Well, I've had a rough year. I've been down and out pretty much since January. I havent been able to do much of anything, no bow refinishing or skinning, no leatherwork, no shooting.
I took on one project doing a fox quiver for a fellow tradganger. It took me 4 months to do it one handed, but its done.
He sent me the HUGE hide stretched and dried hard.
I home tanned it, it was the largest red I've ever worked on. Very greasy, it was good and fat.
Had to put it through the solution twice to degrease. Very tough working the tanned, drying hide one handed/armed. What an eye opener.

Anyway, got it cleaned, shaped and dry. Built the internal quiver of 5-6 ounce veg tan leather. Again, try punching then running thread and lace one handed. Man! No fun.
The pocket and strap components are of Kodiak tanned oiled leather from Tandy. The color matched the red so well I had to use it. Used a tine from a local shed as the pocket flap clinch.
I prefer very natural looking quivers when made of fur so I held off on all the feathers and beads and such. Just leather and bone.
The throat is lined with short knapped sheepskin that I had to shear down very thin to get in the face/throat without restricting space.
Lots of sewing for the shoulder pad.

Anyway, thought you guys and gals might appreciate seeing it. Feeling better by the day now. Will do a how to in the near future on pelt quivers in detail.

Heres a before...

That is beautiful! The coolest quiver I've seen. Awesome job David! Glad to hear you're feeling better too.

Whoops, double post....
Anybody interested in the build along? I could do a couple, a small throated animal like a fisher or otter and bigger like coyote...?
Whatta ya think? Any other skins you'd like to see done instead? I've done most species...

I need one of those!  Awesome job.  My neighborhood foxes I used to enjoy are now in trouble.

A build-a-long would be great. I hope to acquire a pelt this season to make a quiver out of.

I would be super interested in the build a long.  That is a fantastic job, one of the coolest I have ever seen quite frankly.

that is absolutely stunning. i have a great soft tanned bobcat that i killed this year, and i've debated about leaving it as a small rug or making it a quiver. that quiver makes the decision MUCH harder for me!

The fox looks great! Seeing as I have a tanned skin from a big male otter,I'd vote for an otter build along.

Heres a couple of old photos from my catalog...1988 I think?
Otter, skunk (head is too small for arrows so modification is necessary) bobcat that people were mentioning.

That quiver is SWEET! I'd love to see a build along. Coyote would be my critter of choice.
