Curious if you all do anything interesting for a wind indicator?  I've often tied a feather to a piece of dental floss to the top or bottom string loop.  Figure I'll probably tie one on the quiver this year and see how that works.  Any other ideas out there?

I use milk weed fluff religiously, I love how it floats on thermals and I can see it along ways as it floats.

I take the milk weed and put it into an old film container and then cut an x in the top and pull them out.  Works great and like adeeden says you can see them for ever.

I never leave home on a hunting trip without a puff bottle in my pack and spare in the truck.  I also tie a feather on my limb tip as well and use it when I can't access my puff bottle.

I tie a thread to my string near the upper limb tip. When at Ray's I use a puff bottle with corn starch.

All my treestands have a 8" piece of white thread tied to them. No movement required to reach in your pocket and then throw or squirt something. Feather or thread on limb works the same.

I tie a light thread about six inches long on my bow tip near the nock and another behind the broadhead of my no. 1 arrow. The string on the bow keeps me apprised of wind direction while walking, still hunting or stalking.  When on stand, with the string on the arrow, and the arrow on the bow, I always know which way the wind is blowing, even when I have a critter in front of me.

I tie UNWAXED dental floss to my bow. This tells me the wind EXACTLY where I am sitting.

I use talcum powder. It gives me a very accurate look at the wind from my spot out to about 6-7 feet

I use milkweed pods....my pockets are full of them...and they let me watch the current well beyond the 6-7 feet of the talcum powder.

Sincerely, the wind is everything.

I usually see which way my Pipe Smoke is going... might be why I dont see too many critters, but it sure makes it easy to tell Wind Direction! Pretty relaxing too!  :archer:

What kind of bottle do you all use for the powder?  Where did you find it?

Rob W.

After 15yrs. or so I finally quit smoking early this year. I'm going to have to try the string on the arrow trick.

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Dr. Shulz travel size foot powder, the same stuff I use on my shooting glove. Sometimes smoke from Dunhil Morning Pipe from my corncob pipe and when I am feeling lucky smoke from a Maccanudo cigar.

I second the thread in the arrow tip. I take a thin white or florescent orange thread about 6-8 inch long, unscrew my broad head push the tip of the thread into the insert and retighten the broad head. When on stand I always know the wind direction. While moving, I use a puff bottle.
