Anyone here ever hunt elk in Pennsylvania?

Interseptor

I don't have any but there is a guy who is on tradgang from time to time that I remember named Edwin Cook.  He has killed two or three big bulls up there.

Not in Pa,  It's hard enough to get drawn once.

A buddy of mine, who is a very good hunter, drew a cow tag last fall. He hunted from Saturday to Saturday and finally got one on the last evening. He drew a unit that does not have alot of elk in it.

I hope to someday draw a tag!!!

I have applied every year since the drawings started. No Luck Yet.

A guy I work with drew a bull tag about 4 years ago and shot a nice bull.

I was wondering about that myself. With drawing odds roughly less than 1000 to 1?

Not calling anyone a liar, but if he has killed several bull elk in Pa I would imagine that there was a fence involved   :dunno:    :dunno:    :dunno:     .  I am going to start donating this year for my elk permit

Okay, now Im startintg to take offence at the liar accusation.  I'll be the first to tell you that Im not from Penn and don't know the hunting regs.  Im just going on what I was told and the pictures that I have seen.  Maybe the guy didn't kill more than one.  Or maybe he knows something that the rest of us don't and has actually killed more than one.  I do know that you can see a picture of him and a bull he killed if you go to the trophy page of the Bruin web site.  I'll call a friend and get clarification as to whether or not there was more than one bull.

Just got clarification.  Cooke shot two bulls in Penn in two different years.  According to sources, this took place back in the late 90s'/ early part of 2000.  Tags were aquired through landowners because at the time a landowner could get tags from the DNR.  Thats all I know.  Im currently lookng for the old isue of Traditional Bowhunter that had his picture in it.

If you guys want to hunt Roosevelt Elk (Same species as in PA) just come to Oregon. Over the counter tags about 800 bucks and I will have you in elk just about every single day.

Well I don't live in PA, but i'll come hunt a roosevelt!!!!
is it September yet??

Dale in Pa

Pa elk are Rocky Mt subspecies not Roosevelt.

Butchie

Yes, PA Elk are Rocky Mountain reintroduced from Yellowstone Park herd in early 1900's.

If you are fortunate enough to draw a bull tag (very long odds), you are not eligible to even apply for a bull tag for another 5 yrs.   This would make it nearly impossible to have a chance to hunt/harvest multiple bulls in PA during ones lifetime. The 5 yr restriction does not apply to cow tags, but the odds are still against drawing. Best of luck if you do apply!
