I've been contemplating purchasing another bow for a while now. I have a few longbows but have been really wanting to try a static tip recurve. Neither of my bows have been made specifically for me and I need to have at least one with my name on it. So my question is how do you commit to making such a big decision? I am very impatient and don't know if I can wait that long for my bow to arrive.

The easy way is to attend some of the big gatherings where the bowyers you like attend. They usually try to bring a few that they can sell to make expenses for the weekend

Yea that's where the fun began. I bought one bow at kzoo this year and wish I had the money to buy the other one I wanted.

well thats the way to do it, you may only put down a deposit or walk away with a bow, but at least if you are buying new, you will know what yo are getting.

Just put your deposit down or all of the payment, then wait for the call. If it's a long wait, just forget about it until you get the call your bow is ready to be shipped.

I had to wait 13 and 15 months for each of my two recurves.

With a name like Bridegroom, patience should be second nature.

WELL  to give you one Idea . SIXBY   here  makes one of the best Static tip Recurves out there   AND  he only accepts so many orders at a time.  If you call him , and he takes your  order he will tell you when it will be, AND  he sticks to it!!!!!  HIs orders are filled promptly and less wait  once the order is in than most of the others .   IF he is not accepting orders at that time he will tell you when he will be.  Righteous guy is Steve.

Think of it this way, you will be living life anyway and the time will pass. Why not spice it up by waiting for a custom bow?
X2 on Sixby, have heard nothing but the best on his static tips.
Lastly, save some money, buy a sharpie and write your name on one of those longbows.  :bigsmyl:

Put in the order, then get on the classifieds and buy a previously owned bow to hold you over. Then when your new one is about to arrive list the used bow and sell it for the same price you paid.

Check with South Cox, Stalker Bows. Great static tip recurve available in a 3 piece. You can buy longbow limbs later to go with the riser if you want. Can't find a better bowyer to deal with. Short delivery time, excellent quality, and a price that won't break the bank!

"Bridegroom" doesn't take so much patience, but "Husband" does... of course, not as much as "Wife," I suppose.    :saywhat:

Even if you can find a bow you really like, I would suggest that getting your name on it MAY not be the way to go.  If you decide much later on that you've found a new dream bow to try, a bow without a name is usually a little easier to sell. (Don't ask me how I know!)

Black Widow has a 7-10 week waiting period, one of the shortest ones I'm aware of.

 OOOPS...........didn't see you're looking for a static-tip, sorry.  :banghead:

TJ hit on the head for me!  I've done this several times. SOmetimes I learn that I don't want that particular bow after owning one for a while.

Personally, I doubt I'll ever have my name put on another bow. It's just a name and it can be taken off. However, for some reason I get too attached to one with my John Henry scribbled on it. I just sold a beautiful, perfect widow that I hadn't shot for years. It took me a long time to give it up because it was "too" personalized. Almost like naming a pet.

I have some stray cats I feed and water every day. I ain't naming any of em.

JBridegroom22

You guys bring up some good points. I was contemplating having it built with my name or not. Either way it's still going to be a little personal for me.

owlbait

Just put your initials on it. Someone can come up with a custom acronym for initials if you get rid of it. South Cox also has a try it program

I love buying a bow with someone elses name on it. It just shows the travel of trad life, go for it. Put your name on your customs! Its the coolest thing to see a bow you sold ten years ago walk by you at a shoot, it happened to me and I made some great friends talking about it.
