is a 50# bow enough for deer and black bear? i can shoot more weight but i can shoot 50 alot better. i would be shootin the mfx classic arrow with the 75 grain inserts and a 150 grain broadhead. does that sound ok? whats your honest opinion?

A good friend of mine kills whitetails with his 37lb Widow every year...nuff said.

KHALVERSON

yes  sir it is
keep the arrow weight to 10 grains per pound and you will be fine

I killed a waterbuck, red hartebeest, and kudu in africa with a 50# @ my DL bow. All three of those are way bigger than a deer or bear.

Well tuned and razor sharp is all you need for it to work just fine.

thats plenty, Fred Eichler kills the biggest of game with 54lbs. let alone deer and blk bear you'll blow rite though em

The one you shoot better is the standard answer. and for good reason. A gut shot you make with a 60# bow because you're over-bowed is much worse than a good shot on the heart/lungs with a 50# bow.

If you're worried about enough bow, tip the odds in your favor with a heavier arrow, and a razor sharp broadhead.

More than enough.......

I shoot deer and hogs with 48 @ 27. The hogs I killed in my previous thread were killed with that poundage  and a little lighter arrow than that. I shoot razor sharp broadheads.  Put it where it counts and no worries!

I was worried about the same thing, mountain lion, after I reinjured my shoulder. I wasn't supposed to shoot, then was limited to 50#. I've found it to be plenty, even though I shoot 60-62# better. I now shoot up to 70#, but enjoy the 50 pounders enough that I have 4 of them. Fifty pounds with a sharp BH is a wickedly potent rig!

Absolutely.

Now, come fall, take your 50# bow and go and kill one of those huge Kansas whitetails! Let me know if you need a hunting buddy(hint, hint!).

Shoot as much as you can accurately shoot, be it 45# or 85#.  Consider sitting still for hours, and also potential cold into this.  You may shoot 65# in your backyard accurately all summer, but after sitting motionless for hours or having your muscles tense up in cold weather while on stand changes everything.
That being said,... what all the rest said...50 is a great hunting weight.

I have about 15 different 38-42lb recurves I'll be choosing from come this deer season. I expect any and all to produce nice passthru's and short blood trails, as they have in the past.
