Starting to think about my food/dishes I will make for the hunt. I know one thing; my big dutch oven will be making the trip north!
I have cooked more meals in that thing than you can shake a stick at, I love that old oven  :archer:    :jumper:

Was just getting the details on the trip from my door to Opasatika, ON,
Distance: 602.8 miles or roughly 1,000 Kilometres( for the rest of the world...   ;)      :p   )

Approx. time ( not counting traffic..lol, there is none:)) :  11 hours 24 minutes.

From Opasatika we have to drive north on McCowan road for up to an hour, then down the desired logging road to our desired base-camp site.

It is a loooooonnnnnngggggg way in.  :)

Just over three weeks to go.  I'm looking forward to this very much.  Laid out a bunch of gear last night and I'm pretty much set.  I'll need to put a bit of thought into food and I'll be ready to go.

The only special consideration I might do is to make up a half dozen Tamarack/Purpleheart footed arrows tipped with some 160gr Magnus two blades. Special arrows for a special hunt.

Ray, good to hear from you.  Glad to hear the longbow is working out.  I was saying that this trip is a lot like the work we used to do, except the camping might be a little more luxurious.  And we don't need to throw ourselves out of a helicopter or C130 to get where we need to be.

Best of luck, Jim, Cary and Serge,, Can't wait to read the trip report,,,Frank

I don't choose the deer, the deer chooses me.

ahhhhh...the famed, venerable, mystical, fabled K-zoo arrows.... ;)

With some 160 gr magnus 1's? gonna be moose-rib smashing missles of destruction!
I can't wait to just SEE them arrows.  :p

I, like Jim, am pretty much set, All I gotta do is go thru my gear and pick what I really need ( and some stuff that I don't... ;) )

And I agree with Mr. Mississippi Lake Longbow; this may seem like work, but when we are sitting around the campfire at nite, enjoying some adult beverages; work will be the furthest thing from my mind!

I am as pumped about going for some brookies with my bamboo 6wt as I am about chasing the Alces Alces!!!
Harl was giving me some handy tips for bowhunting these big critters, I thanks him for his very aged advice.  :p
I am going to order another Grizzly glove From Tim at Braveheart, I love the one that I have from him, and I do need some 160 gr. BH's.

It will be a whirlwind of activity for us though. besides the trip planning and moose hunting; we will be coming home, resting 1 day, then the Ontario opener for Whitetails opens.
Falls into the "hard job, but somebody has to do it" category. :)

Thanks Frank,Cary has the job about the trip report    :readit:   it .
Been shooting with 760gr arrows today and those are just smoking out of the "primal Quest" longbow, finally found (or very close to it) the sweet spot and closed the group to a 5" at 15 yards and getting better (I think    :D  ).
It is quite the distance Cary for sure but worth it all the way, nice landscape, lakes and forest to look at and enjoy, neer get enough of the outdoor.
