Well, after some emailing and phone calls; it is official.
Me, Serge( Drifter2) and Jim Godden are heading for moose in northern Ontario on Sept. 20th!

Serge drew a cow tag for WMU 24 and had nobody to go with.
We did have plans to go with Nick aka Patience to a mixed gun/bow area further south; but he is fighting our MNR folks over land issues.
But the best thing is our new area 24 is ARCHERY only!!!
I spoke with a CO from the area we are going to; he gave me a scoop on a good area to base out of.
We will be hunting the Opasatika river system.
It is an area rich with beaver ponds, dams and shallow backwaters, lots and lots of marsh land.

I was also urged by the CO to buy a few bear tags, he told me it was literally overrun with bears. Told me we would see more bears than moose...he also said it was loaded with moose...      ;)            :scared:
I plan on taking a whole 1GB of pics and hope to get some video as well.
I want to document the whole trip for future writing fodder.
Now that the players are official, we have a bit over 3 weeks to get it all in line and this show on the road. Good thing we are all experienced outdoor guys with a ton of gear.
Hopefully we bag our moose; but the experience will be the icing on the cake.
Nick may still be a go, I really hope he can make it 4 of us.

wish us luck.

Funniest, actually the "saddest" thing about this is that when I called the MNR office up there to get  info on the area; the voice recording's first prompt is "If this is a call about a nuisance bear problem, please call...".
Since they cancelled the spring hunt 7 years ago, the incident level is wayyyyyy up.
Sad issue indeed.

Tom, we will be about 50 kms west and north of the Kap, about halfway to Hearst..I'll keep a beer or 6 cold for ya. Also, if yours falls thru, you are welcome to join us OBB.

Sounds like a fine place to put Jim's bows to the test.

I still have a few weeks here before our season opens.

Big Dog,

Good luck with the swamp donkey's!

Hope you, Jim and group fill your tags

All, just got off the phone with Cary.  I guess I'll be doing a show when the final planning session is on in two weeks.  Not to worry though, I'm flexible, I'll go where you all tell me to, when you tell me to, and bring what you tell me to.

I was slightly concerned when I learned about the bear situation, but what really has me worried is the thought of Harl wandering the northern bush.  If you thought Sasquatch was scary, imagine the OBB coming through the forest at dawn....and the nearest Tim Hortons hundreds of kms away.

I'll be taking both of my Mississippi Lake longbows, tapered ash arrows from Alleghany with either 160 gr Magnus 1's, or 145-160 gr. STOS.
will be toting my sweet hip/belt quiver that tim Roberts made for me.
Good moose medicine, not to mention bear-bashers. :)

Bow is shooting great. I'm also shooting tapered Ash shafts and they really like Jim's bow.

I've found more bear sign in the last week than I've seen in two years, so I'm pretty excited.

Hope all goes well, Tell jim I said hello.
