Can anyone give me some advice on increasing point weight for a wooden arrow? I'm trying to set up wooden hunting arrows with a zwickey broadhead. The broadhead now weighs less than the previous glue on fieldtips which completely messes up my spine. Any idea how I can add another 100grains or so to the tip? Usually (with carbon) I just add a bronze insert.

Woody weights. Or just go with a different head. Could end up costing around the same price. Check the classifieds and put a want to buy  for a new type heads. What field point weight were you shooting?

Are you saying your glue on points were 225 grains?  Most Zwickey heads weigh from 125-135 grains, except for the 5/16 heads, which weigh 115 grains.

As lp said, you can use woody weights or go to a heavier glue on broadhead.  Can also do an internal footing, i.e., drill a hole in the arrow shaft and fill it with brass rod. I believe 3R and others sell a jig for drilling the hole.

Could also melt some lead and pour it into the broadhead ferrule or sprinkle a little small size bird shot into it and tamp it down well.  That will only add about 25-30 grains though if you still want to leave enough room for a fairly long point taper on your shaft.

Drop some lead weight in the ferrule if there is room.

Only three ways I know of to add 100 grains: Woody Weights, 3" lead wire insert or new broadheads.  Woody Weights or new broadheads to match your field points are the easy choices.  Drilling a straight 3" hole is a good trick, even with a jig, and once you epoxy in the weight, it is a permanent fixture.
