I'be noticed on many bows the strikeplate is about 1 1/2 to 2" long. My strikeplate is only about half an inch long due to the fact that I only had that much seal skin left. I am getting great arrow flight but am concerned that it will wear out quicker. Is there a reason to worry?

I think it is what it is.The only part that will wear is the area of contact and I expect that each would where about the same.Either way, they don't last forever.

Jim is correct.  Only place the pad wears is where the arrow is drawn across it.  Larger pads are used for two reasons -- aesthetics and/or noise reduction, i.e., less likely to clank an arrow while loading it on the bow.

Thanks. I guess the only thing to worry about is the unavailability of seal skin. Is beaver fur a decent substitute?

FWIW, besides protecting against the inadvertent clank, I think the larger swaths of strike plate are old school, which some guys (like me) like. Velcro rugs make a good plate.

I like the larger strike plates as they make for a quieter draw if your arrow bounces on the shelf.

I also like the longer side strike plates. I also prefer velcro for shelf and side strike plate.
